Despite a sore forearm and elbow, freshman Reed Rodgers of Vicksburg was able to help partner Nico Osorio of Bogata, Columbia, defeat the Southwest No. 1 doubles team of Blake Stalans/Matt Henagan 8-0. The No. 2 doubles team of Guillermo Chaves of Bogota, Columbia/Reilly Miller of Brookhaven defeated Josh Yawn/Drew Stone 8-0. The No. 3 doubles team of Justin Hewitt of Monticello/Blake Smith of Brookhaven defeated the Southwest team of Stuart Able/Eli Whitaker 8-1.
In singles action, Osorio (No. 1) defeated Stalans 6-0, 6-0; Chaves (No. 2) defeated Henagan 6-3, 6-1; Rodgers (No. 3) defeated Yawn 6-2, 6-3; Miller (No. 4) defeated Jake Easly 6-1, 6-0 and Hewitt (No. 5) defeated Stone 6-2, 6-0.
Co-Lin’s Blake Smith defeated Dylan Boyd 6-1, 6-1. Smith did not play in the first meeting with Southwest.
The Wolfpack travel to Decatur to meet East Central on Wednesday. Action begins at 2 p.m. “Our doubles teams were on fire, allowing Southwest only one game in sweeping all three matches,” said Co-Lin tennis coach Mike McIntyre. “Our singles line-up then took care of business and accomplished one of our team goals: a 9-0 dual match victory. We had come up a little short in eight other attempts due to injury or one of our regulars not being able to play. Of course, our most important team goal remains two weeks away, to qualify for Nationals.” SINGLES:
