Wolfpack sweep Trojans

WESSON - The Wolfpack rallied back from a 7-0 deficit to take a 9-7 win over the Mississippi Delta Trojans on a beautiful sun-kissed day at Sullivan Field. Co-Lin made it a sweep by taking game 2 12-6. The Wolfpack (5-1) will host Kakaskia (IL) on Monday at 1 p.m.

Co-Lin 9, Mississippi Delta 7

The Trojans jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the top of the first inning. A single by Cody Marks, scoring Aaron Woodard started the inning off. Mississippi Delta pushed more runs across when Cole Lee scored, Marks and Laine Jordan scored on a three-run home run by Caleb Hanley, and Darren Massey scored.

Mississippi Delta added another run in the top of the third inning to make the score 7-0.

The Wolfpack scored 5 runs in the bottom of the third inning. Center fielder Javon Washington drew a lead-off walk. Catcher Steven Joe doubled to center field. Washington scored on Noel Santos's single to center field. Gabe Wilson's groundout to third scored Joe. Willie Buckley's single to right field plated Santos. Right fielder Zac Ferguson's double to center drove in Buckley and Bryce Guess singled and the Wolfpack trailed 7-5.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Buckley's 2-run home run to left field gave Co-Lin an 8-7 lead. The Wolfpack added an insurance run to take a 9-7 win.

The Wolfpack pounded out 14 hits led by Ferguson who went 4-for-4 with a double and 3 singles and 2 RBIs. Buckley racked up 3 RBIs on a home run, double and single. Wilson had a double and two singles for 2 RBIs. Santos singled twice. Joe added a double. Adding a single was Guess.

Freshman Ryan Goddard picked up his first collegiant win allowing one earned run, walking two and striking out three in 4.2 innings of work. Andrew Lee threw two-thirds of an inning of scoreless ball to pick up the save. Starter Tripp Jolly allowed 6 runs on 4 hits, struck out 1, walked 1 and hit 2 batters.

Eric Brozovich absorbed the loss allowing 9 runs, 8 earned, on 13 hits, striking out 3, walking 3 and hitting 1 batter in 5.1 innings of work. Winn Roark pitched . 2 innings allowing 1 hit.

Hanley racked up three RBIs on one hit for Mississippi Delta. Marks and Jorge Torbio singled twice. Adding supports with a single apiece were Massey and Blake Palasini.

Co-Lin 12, Mississippi Delta 6

Co-Lin exploded for 7 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to come from behind and take a 12-6 win.

Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth, Ferguson led off the inning with a single to center. Catcher Johnathan Santana ripped a triple into the gap in center field scoring Ferguson to tie the game at 6-all. Nolan Long was hit by Trojan pitcher Turner Neely. Joe's RBI single to right field scored Santana to put the Wolfpack up 7-6. Long and Joe advanced stealing second and third and Long scored on an error by the catcher. Second baseman Gabe Wilson drew a walk. Buckley grounded out to the pitcher advancing Joe and Wilson. Shortstop Noel Santos laced a triple down the right field line scoring Joe and Wilson giving Co-Lin a 10-6 lead. Bryce Guess drew a walk. Santos scored on a wild pitch. Ferguson's RBI smashed a line drive double to left field to score Guess.

Joe came in to pitch a scoreless seventh inning to secure the win.

The Wolfpack took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Bryce Guess's 2-run RBI single.

In the top of the second, the Trojans answered with 4 runs on a Jorge Torbio RBI double to right field, an Eric Brozovich RBI single aided by three Wolfpack errors put Delta up 4-2.

Co-Lin added a run in the bottom of the third to pull within 4-3. Joe reached on an error and advanced to second on a balk. Buckley's single to center field scored Joe.

The Wolfpack regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Ferguson was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a single by Matt Smith. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice by Santana. Long's 2-run RBI single to center gave Co-Lin a 5-4 lead.

Delta regained the lead 6-5 in the top of the sixth. D. J. Elkins led off the inning with a single to center and advanced to second on Brad Helton's sacrifice. Cole Lee doubled to the left field corner drove in Elkins. He advanced to third on a flyball to right by Brozovich and scored on a Cole Smith wild pitch.

The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to nine lead changes in the game.

Ferguson continued his hot hitting as he went 2-for-3 a double and a single. Buckley doubled and singled. Joe singled twice. Tripling were Santos and Santana. Singling were  Long, Matt Smith, and Guess.

Jorge Toribio went 3-4, drove in one and scored one run. Toribio doubled in the second inning and singled in the third and seventh innings. Brozovich, Elkins and Haden Ward singled twice. Cole Lee doubled.

Cody Smith earned his first win of the season allowing 2 runs on 2 hits pitching the sixth inning. Starter Chandler Ramsey allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, on 7 hits, struck out 3 and walked 4 in 5 innings of work. Joe pitched the final inning allowing 1 hit, striking out 1 and walking 1.
