Wolfpack take two from Kaskaskia Blue Devils

WESSON - The Wolfpack continued their winning ways taking two from the Kaskaskia (IL) Blue Devils 8-7 in the opener and 8-4 in the nightcap. Co-Lin improves to 7-1 on the young season. The Wolfpack travel to Morehead on Friday to take on the Mississippi Delta Trojans. Action begins at 1 p.m.

Co-Lin 8, Kaskaskia (IL) 7

The Blue Devils plated two runs in the first and second innings to take a 4-0 lead.

Right fielder Zac Ferguson led off the bottom of the third with a single to left field. Bryce Guess followed with a single to center. Mitch Little laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up to second and third. With two outs, catcher Steven Joe singled to center field scoring Ferguson and Guess to trim the lead to 4-2.

Co-Lin tied the game at 4-all in the bottom of the fourth. Second baseman Gabe Wilson reach on an error. Noel Santos followed with a single to right field. Johnathan Santana laid down a sacrifice bunt to move up the runners. Wilson scored on a wild pitch and Santos scored on an error.

Kaskaskia regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning as they scored 3 runs. With 1 out, Jose Sola drew a walk and stole second. Steven Todoshuk singled to right field. Brendon Hardin's RBI single to left field gave the Blue Devils a 5-4 lead. Cameron Sloan singled to left scoring Todoshuk. Hardin scored on an error.

In the bottom of the fifth, back-to-back singles by Guess and Little put runners on first and third with no outs. Center fielder Nolan Long was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Joe hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Guess and advancing the runners. Wilson reached on a fielder's choice that scored Little. Santos doubled off the right field wall to score Wilson. Santana hit a single deep into the hole at short plating Santos and gave the Wolves a 8-7 lead.

At the plate for Co-Lin, Santos doubled and singled. Guess singled twice. Singling were Joe (2 RBIs), Wilson, Santana, Ferguson, Willie Buckley, and Little.

Javon Washington earned the win for the Wolfpack. He allowed 5 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, struck out 4 and walked 1 in four innings of work. Tyler Copeland picked up the save pitching 2 scoreless inning. He struck out 2 and walked 1. Starter Korey Allen allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and walked 1 in 1 inning.

Sloan led the Blue Devils with a double and a single. Adding a single apiece were Sola, Todoshuk, Hardin, Dominique Minoque, and Felix De Jesus.

Absorbing the loss was Paul Hrvol who allowed 8 runs (6 earned) on 9 hits and struck out 2 in 4.2 innings. Blake Feldman relieved Hrvol in the fifth allowing 1 hit and striking out 1.

The Wolfpack got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning, Guess and Matt Smith were both hit by pitches to lead off the inning. Ferguson's sacrifice moved the runner up to second and third. Santana grounded out scored Guess.

Co-Lin added a run in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Santos singled to right field and advanced to second on a passed ball. Wilson reach on an error and Santos scored pushing Co-Lin's lead to 2-0.

The Blue Devils got on the board in the top of the fourth. Todoshuk led off the inning with a walk. Kyle Emig singled to left field. Ryne Floyd sacrificed the runners to second and third. Todoshuk scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by Minoque.

The Wolfpack went up 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth when Santana belted his first home run of the year over the right field fence scoring Matt Smith who led off the inning with a triple to right.

An RBI single by Jarod Perry in the top of the fifth scored Michael Huddleston and brought the Blue Devils to 4-2.

In the bottom of the fifth with one out, Santos reached on an error and advanced to second on Wilson's ground out to the pitcher. Guess singled to left field moving Santos to third. Matt Smith's line drive single to left plated Guess and put the Wolfpack up 6-2.

Co-Lin picked up 2 insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Santana singled and was replaced on the bases by pinch runner Garrett McBeth. Will Gatlin's single to center field drove in McBeth and the Wolfpack lead grew to 7-2. Joe singled to left field to give Co-Lin a 8-2 advantage.

Kaskaskia picked up 2 runs in the top of the seventh. Huddleston drew a lead off walk. Sola's 2-out double scored Huddleston. Todoshuk's RBI single to left field plated Sola. Co-Lin pitcher Andrew Lee struck out the next batter to end the game.

Santana led Co-Lin at the plate with a home run and a single for 3 RBIs. Matt Smith singled and tripled. Adding support with a single apiece were Joe, Santos, Guess, and Gatlin.

For Kaskaskia, Kyle Floyd singled twice. Sola doubled. Perry, Todoshuk, Emig, Huddleston, and Cameron Sloan had a single apiece.

Josh Wages pitched 5 strong innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, striking out 2 and walking 2. Raymond Winter threw shutout inning giving up 1 hit and striking out 1. Andrew Lee pitched the seventh inning allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, striking out 2 and walking 1.

Fory Albert was the losing pitcher allowing 6 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits and striking out 6 in 5 innings of work. Ryne Floyd pitched an inning allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, striking out 2 and walking 1.
