ELLISVILLE – Co-Lin's Jasmine James hit a layup with 21.9 seconds left and Chanta Poole added a free throw with 1.6 seconds remaining to lift the Lady Wolves to a 72-70 victory over the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats in South Division action. The Lady Wolves improve to 13-3 overall and remain unbeaten in the division at 6-0. JCJC falls to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in the South. Lady Wolves 72, Lady Bobcats 70
The Lady Bobcats outplayed the Lady Wolves in the first half taking 34-27 lead at intermission.
Co-Lin went on a 21-10 run in the first 8 minutes of the second half to take a 43-42 lead. The lead would change hands eight times over the next nine-plus minutes. The Lady Wolves went on a 12-0 run and took a 69-60 lead with 2:42 left when Vintrice Briggs hit a 3-pointer from the corner.
But the Lady Bobcats responded with a 10-0 run of its own and took a 70-69 lead with 53.9 seconds to play when La’Porsche Jones made a layup.
James scored to give the Lady Wolves a 71-70 lead. After a Lady Bobcat miss, Co-Lin played keep away until Poole was fouled and made the second of 2 free throws.
The Lady Bobcats had one last opportunity inbounding the ball, but time expired before they could take a shot.
The Co-Lin bench out-scored JCJC 22-0 and out-shot the Lady Bobcats 53 percent (29-of-55) to 45 percent (24-of-53).
James had a team-high 15 points for Co-Lin. Jasmine Belton followed with 14 points and led the team in rebounding with 9 boards. Keosha Bradley chipped in 11 points, dished out 7 assists and made 6 steals. Chanta Poole and Tiffany Sims had 4 steals apiece. Poole also pulled down 6 rebounds.
Alecia Autman scored a game-high 26 points for the Lady Bobcats. Kasey McKinney added 17 points followed by Lauren Douglas with 12. Terrenisha Hollis had 9 points and 7 rebounds, while Douglas had five assists.
