WESSON - Copiah-Lincoln Community College defensive back Dehendret Collins and linebacker Tevin Thomas, both of Meadville, have signed with Ole Miss and Georgia Southern University respectively.
Collins (5-11, 180) has been a two-year starter for the Wolfpack. He accounted for 39 tackles (30 solo, 9 assists) and was second in the state in interceptions with 6. Collins was named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Second Team All-American, NJCAA All-Region 23 and Mississippi Association of Community & Junior College (MACJC) First Team All-State. He was a second-team, All-MACJC South Division performer in 2010.
Collins was among three JUCO standouts signed by new Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze. Offensive lineman Darone Bailey of Coahoma Community College and Darone Bailey of San Francisco College also signed with the Rebels
He joins former Co-Lin teammate and defensive back Wesley Pendleton, who signed with the Rebels last year.
Thomas was a leader on for the Wolfpack defense this season. Thomas (6-1, 200) was seventh in the state and led the Wolfpack in tackles with 87 (40 solo, 47 assists). He also accounted for one forced fumble. Thomas was named MACJC Second Team All-State and also played in the MACJC All-Star Game.
Georgia Southern (11-3) reached the Semifinals of the NCAA FCS Playoffs for the second-straight season. They fell 35-7 to North Dakota State. The Eagles, coached by Jeff Monken, are members of the Southern Conference and located in Statesboro, Ga.
