WESSON - Head Coach Glenn Davis and the Wolfpack signed 26 players on National Signing Day. The group includes eight defensive linemen, five offensive linemen, five defensive backs, three wide receivers, three linebackers, and two running backs.
Davis is pleased with this year's signing class. "We filled some needs on both sides of the ball," said Davis.
The new MACJC recruiting rules allow schools to recruit statewide, instead of just in their districts. He said it’s still important for the Wolfpack to still be able to recruit strong locally.
Local signees include offensive linemen Steven Hudson and Codi Winters, running back/defensive back Greg Sims, and wide receiver Ross Hill, all of Brookhaven High School; defensive lineman Xavier Dampeer, wide receiver/defensive back Van Lee, and offensive lineman DeLantrell McClain, all of Mendenhall High School; running back Larry Chatman and defensive back Cody Tucker, both of Natchez High School; defensive back Fred Coleman and linebacker Jimmy Barnes, both of Franklin County High School; tight end/defensive back Jervarus Banks of Hazlehurst High School; defensive back Kalen Jackson and tight end/defensive end Tyson McDonald, both of Magee High School; and wide receiver Bubba Keene of Brookhaven Academy.
Out of district signees include defensive linemen Anthony Cunningham and Theodore Jones, both of Wayne County High School; offensive lineman Jacquell Johnson and defensive back John Stewart, both of Callaway High School; defensive linemen Xavier Pitts and MacJarovis Tims, both of Greenwood High School; defensive lineman Ryan Proctor ad defensive back Chris Richmond, both of Brandon High School; linebacker Jymal Ellis of Ridgeland High School, linebacker Jordan Harris of Clarksdale High School, and offensive lineman Kordarius Anderson of McClain High School.
Davis expects to add a few more players for 2012 in the coming weeks.
