WESSON - Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves will host an Offensive Skills Softball Clinic for players in grades 7-12 on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 1-4 p.m. at the Lady Wolves Field on the college’s Wesson Campus.
Detailed instruction will be given on all aspects of hitting, bunting, slapping, sliding and base-running. Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent, along with first-year assistant coach Rob Channell will direct the clinic with assistance from current Co-Lin players.
Proper mechanics of the grip, stance, bat angle, stride, swing and follow-through will be covered. Countless drills and repetitions will help ingrain a proper swing, eliminating dipping, over-striding and other common swing faults.
The Lady Wolves have established themselves as one of the top teams in not only Mississippi, but they have been consistently ranked in the NJCAA National polls. The 2008 squad was National Runners-Up, while the 2006 team finished third in the National Tournament. Co-Lin has boasted numerous All-Americans and Academic All-Americans. During Kent’s tenure, his teams have amassed a record of 264-104.
In the event of inclement weather, the clinic will be held in Co-Lin’s two gyms, so bring tennis shoes in case. Players may bring their own bat and helmet. Batting gloves are strongly encouraged, due to the high number of swings that will be taken.
Pre-paid cost for the clinic is $35. Pre-registration is preferred, but walk-ups will be accepted at the cost is $40. Secondary insurance coverage is provided.
