BROOKHAVEN - The #17 nationally ranked Wolves managed to start their season on a winning note by getting past a heavily stacked Northeast MS team 5-4 in an exciting match at the Brookhaven City Courts. The match had to be moved to Brookhaven due to the resurfacing of the Co-Lin courts.
“I still enjoy a 5-4 dual match victory much more than a 9-0 rout...especially when it comes down to one final individual match,” said men’s coach Mike McIntyre.
At #5 singles, Co-Lin’s Brance Crane polished off Northeast’s Taylor Dees in straight sets to tie the team dual match at 4-4. The match outcome rested on the shoulders of Co-Li’s least experienced player, freshman # 6 singles Gib Britt of Wesson who won it in a super-tiebreaker 10-4!
Picking up singles wins for the Wolfpack were #1 singles and nationally ranked #22 Marko Knezevic who defeated Duncan Shaefer 6-0, 6-0. #2 Mario Huljev took care of Preston Wade 6-4, 6-4. Crane defeated Taylor Dees at #5 6-4, 6-1. Britt defeated Northeast’s Andrew Ferrell 6-0, 3-6 (10-4) at #6 singles.
In doubles action, Co-Lin's #1 and #31 nationally ranked Marko Knezevic/Mario Huljev defeated Northeast's Andrew Ferrell/Duncan Shaefer 6-0, 6-0 to get the only doubles win for the Wolfpack.
Co-Lin travels to Goodman to take on #22 nationally ranked Holmes Community College on Friday, Feb. 24.
