Simmons inks with Lady Wolves

WESSON - Murrah High School standout Brandi Simmons has signed a national letter of intent to play with the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves. Simmons, a 5-11 forward, was a first team All-State selection by The Clarion-Ledger after averaging 18.5 points and 12.5 rebounds this season for the Lady Mustangs. Simmons helped lead Coach Anna Jackson's Lady Mustangs to three straight Class 5A state championships and a Grand Slam title this season when the team finished No. 1 in the Super10. She finished her career with 1,823 points, placing her fifth on Murrah's scoring list. She trails only Tera Sheriff, Navonda Moore, Kesha Tardy and Ebony Felder.

Lady Wolves sign seven for 2009-2010

WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College head women’s basketball coach Gwyn Young announces the signing seven players for 2009-2010.

Naketa Roberts is a 5’8” guard/forward from Capitol High School in Baton Rouge, La. Roberts averaged 14.7 points and 7.1 for the 2009 Louisiana 3A State Champions. Roberts was selected First Team All-District, All-Metro, and Honorable Mention All-State. Capitol High School, coached by Alvin Stewart, were the State Champions in 2006, 2007 and 2009.

Ashley Morrison is a 5’11” forward from Adams County Christian School in Natchez. Morrison averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal for Coach Melanie Hall’s ACCS Lady Rebels.  Morrison was named All-District, MPSA All-Star and MPSA All-Star MVP for the South Team.

Allison Boyd, a 5’5” point guard averaged 16.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.5 assist and 4 steals for Coach Sue Smith at Pelahatchie High School. Boyd was selected All-District, All-Metro, and All-Tournament.

Alicia Kelly is a 5’8” guard/forward from Wingfield High School in Jackson.  Kelly averaged 8.3 points and 7.1 rebounds for Coach Bobby Gates.  Kelly was selected the team’s Most Improved Defensive Player and had Highest Rebound Average.

Kristin Newsome, a 5’9” forward for Forest Hill High School in Jackson, averaged 8.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals. Newsome was named All-District. Coach Tommy Groves team was the JPD Pepsi-Tournament Champions, District Champions and finished with 30-5 record.

Shakina Green, a 5’11” forward from Crystal Springs High School, did not play her senior year at Crystal Springs. As a junior Green averaged 15.7 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal per game for Coach Danielle Busby.

Cinnamon Riley, a 5’6” guard from Alpha Christian in Hattiesburg, averaged 17.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals as a senior. Riley was selected All-District ad was a member of Juanita Wilson’s 2008 MPSA Runner-up State Champions and 2008 MPSA Over-all State Tournament participants.
