CLINTON - The Co-Lin Lady Wolves advanced to the semifinals of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament by defeating the Southwest Lady Bears 74-66 at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton. Co-Lin (26-1) will face the Itawamba on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Catch all the action on www.colinathletics.com and WMJU 104.3 FM.
The Lady Wolves bounced back from Thursday's disappointing 72-62 loss to Jones County in the MACJC State Championship game.
The Lady Bears led by as many as 7 points in the first half. The Lady Wolves, who were without the services of freshman Brandi Simmons for most of the first half due to foul trouble, would battle back to take a 37-35 lead at the half.
Guard Nadia Collins came off the bench to spark the Lady Wolves scoring 12 second half points, including back-to-back treys to put Co-Lin up 54-50 with 7:57 left in the game.
Sophomore Rachel Vigers led Co-Lin with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Latoria Holder added 12 points and dished out 4 assists. Shareka Hunt recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Southwest outshot the Lady Wolves 43 percent to 41 percent.
For the Southwest, sophomore Octavia Bearden led all scorers with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds. LaTonia Anthony added 13 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Ta'Keya Felder chipped in 11 points, 8 rebounds, dished out 5 assists and made 3 steals. |
