Twelve Wolves Earn Postseason Honors
JACKSON – The Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) released the members of the North and South All-MACCC honorees on Tuesday, November 15. Co-Lin football has 12 members named to the All-MACCC South Team.
Sophomore defensive back Ques McNeal (Ackerman), sophomore offensive lineman William McCollum (Jackson) and sophomore wide receiver Tyquan Henderson (Canton) all received First Team honors. Sophomore linebacker Ja'Len Sims (Birmingham, AL), sophomore offensive lineman John Mitchell (Lexington), and sophomore quarterback DeVon Tott (Mandeville, LA) all received Second Team honors. Sophomore defensive linemen Travorus Hatcher (Macon) and Kadarius Miller (Magnolia), sophomore linebacker Jamal Pye (Byhalia), sophomore offensive lineman Josh Trask (Natchez), freshman offensive lineman Jackson Taylor (Brookhaven), and freshman wide receiver Jaylen Smith (Jacksonville, FL) received Honorable Mention.
Ques McNeal was the lone returning starter in the Wolves secondary and the sophomore was the leader and anchor for the unit. He started in all nine games this season and had 27 total tackles with four pass breakups, one blocked kick, and a team-leading three interceptions for the Wolves defense.
DeVon Tott led the Wolves offense all season from the quarterback position as he started all nine games for the team. Tott completed 137 of 271 pass attempts for a completion percentage of 50.6 for 1841 yards with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Tott also had 66 rushes for 323 yards with three touchdowns. He averaged a total of 240.5 total yards per game with an average of 204.6 passing yards and 35.9 rushing yards per game.
Tyquan Henderson led the Wolves receiving corps in receptions and yards with 41 and 567 in those respective categories. He started in all nine games this season for the Wolves and led the team in receptions per game at 4.6, receiving yards per game at 63 and averaged 13.8 yards per catch while hauling in two touchdown passes on the season.
Jaylen Smith was the second leading receiver in terms of receptions and yards for the Wolves. Smith played in eight games for the team this season and hauled in 17 receptions for 326 yards and a team-leading three touchdowns. He also played a factor in the return game for the Wolves where he returned 16 punts for 209 yards and had one touchdown.
William McCollum, John Mitchell, Josh Trask, and Jackson Taylor were the anchors for the Wolves offense as these four accounted for 35 total starts with McCollum the lone member of the group to miss one game this season. These four players comprised the bulk of an offensive line that saw the team average almost 380 yards per game (nearly 168 rushing yards and 212 passing yards per game) while averaging 25 points per game.
Ja'Len Sims and Jamal Pye were the leading tacklers for the Wolves defense from their linebacker positions as Sims had 74 total tackles while Pye had 58 total tackles. Both also were the top two in tackles per game at 8.2 and 6.4 respectively while Sims also added four sacks, 10.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and four pass breakups on the season with Pye adding 5.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and two pass breakups throughout the season.
Travorus Hatcher and Kadarius Miller were the anchors for the Wolves defensive line as the duo started in all nine games for the team this season. Miller finished third on the team in total tackles with 50 while Hatcher finished with the seventh-most total tackles at 31. Hatcher led the Wolves defense this season in sacks with six and had 6.5 tackles for loss while Miller had two sacks and was second on the team in tackles for loss with nine.
Co-Lin finished the 2022 regular season 5-4 overall and 3-3 in South Division play.
