Meridian takes down Co-Lin 69-60
WESSON – The Meridian Community College Eagles defeated the Co-Lin Wolves 69-60 in men's basketball action Saturday.
"We had a hard time scoring today," said Co-Lin head coach Kenny Bizot. "We started each half very flat and it was hard to overcome."
Meridian (6-2, 6-3) outscored Co-Lin 27-9 to start the game. But the Wolves would battle back and cut the lead to 33-29 with 1:09 left in the first half. Meridian's Leondre Townsen hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left in the half to give the Eagles a 36-29 lead at halftime.
Co-Lin's JD Allen (Wesson/Wesson Attendance Center) hit a try to start the second half. But they couldn't get any closer.
The Wolves shot 37 percent (23 of 66) from the field, 24 percent (8-of-33) from behind the arc.
Sophomore Shemar Dickerson (Wesson/Wesson Attendance Center) was the only Co-Lin player in double figures with 11 points. Dee Merriweather (Memphis, TN/East Memphis High School) and Jordan Marshall (Raymond/Raymond High School) had nine points apiece. TJ Monroe (Columbia/Columbia High School) pulled down six rebounds.
For Meridian, Brandon Ellington had a game-high 15 points and pulled down nine. Tyron Moore had 13 points. Kolby Moore and Christian Terrell chipped in 11 points apiece.
Next Up: The Wolves (3-6, 2-6) travel to Perkinston to take on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs on Monday. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
