Wolves Comeback Falls Short Against Wildcats

POPLARVILLE – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to MACCC play with a road contest against Pearl River on Monday, February 9. The Wolves valiant second half comeback attempt came up short as the Wildcats took the game, 67-59.

Both teams came out firing on all cylinders offensively as they traded baskets and leads with the Wildcats ultimately holding an 11-10 lead over the Wolves with 14:12 left to play in the first half. The Wildcats then went on a 14-4 run opening their lead over the Wolves to 25-14 with 10:18 remaining. The Wolves then responded with a 7-5 scoring run to cut the lead down to 30-22 with 6:11 left on the clock. The Wildcats then closed out the first half with an 8-4 scoring run pushing their lead to 38-26 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves came out firing to start the second half as they went on a 7-4 scoring run to cut the lead down to 42-33 with 16:53 remaining. The Wolves then scored nine unanswered points to tie the game at 42-42 after a jumper by Dylan Cregget (DeSoto, TX) with 13:57 left on the clock. However, the Wildcats responded with a 19-13 scoring run to regain the lead at 61-55 with 5:52 left to play. The Wildcats then closed out the game with a 6-4 scoring run to secure the 67-59 win over the Wolves.

Moustapha Salekh (Ngekoh, Senegal) and Morris Hammond (Ridgeland) led the way for the Wolves offensively with 13 points each while Tyrell Bowles (Springdale, MD) had nine points. Caleb Crozier (Yazoo City) had eight points with Dylan Creggett and Koie Williams (Philadelphia) had seven points each while Tristian Lucas (Pearl) had two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 11-9 overall, 4-3 in MACCC play and will return to action hosting Meridian on Thursday, February 12. Tip-off between the Eagles and the Wolves is set for 7:30 p.m., in Mullen Gym.
