MADISON, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College golf team had a great outing this week as the team claimed second place in the Mississippi College Spring Invitational played at Lake Caroline Golf Club in Madison. Co-Lin was the only community college that participated, as other teams in attendance were all four-year programs in Shorter University, Mississippi College, Arkansas Monticello, the Mississippi University for Women, and Belhaven University.
Two rounds were played on Monday to open play before the third and final round was played on Tuesday. The Wolves came out firing in the opening round as the team carded a 295 led by a 71 from Garret Herring. The stellar play tied Co-Lin with Mississippi College for first place after 18 holes.
Later in the afternoon, Co-Lin backed up their impressive morning with a 294. Lucas Brewer led the Wolves in the second round with a 70. The solid performance put the Wolves in second place after Shorter University fired a 288 in the second round to leap into first.
On Tuesday, Cameron Little led the Wolves with a blistering 68 to help Co-Lin card a 300 to hold on to second place, a very impressive finish in the six-team field.
Little's third round 68 capitulated the sophomore to third place individually with a tournament total 214, just one stroke shy of medaling.
The impressive play puts a lot of momentum behind the Wolves heading into the final MACJC regular season tournament on April 6 and April 7 on their home course, Wolf Hollow in Wesson. Co-Lin follows that with the MACJC State Championship at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Raymond, Miss. on April 13 and April 14.
