Summers Named Goalie of the Week

JACKSON – The MACCC announced the recipients of the weekly conference awards on Tuesday, September 27 and the Co-Lin Men's Soccer team saw one of their own on the list. Freshman goalkeeper Leo Summers has been named the Goalie of the Week by the MACCC.

"Leo has come in and made an instant impact for our team," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "Everything about him is professional from his work ethic and demeanor all the way to his ability on the field."

The Cornwall, England native had a great week in goal for the Wolves en route to a perfect 2-0 start to conference play. Summers started the week by making five saves in the Wolves 3-0 win over Hinds and then finished the week saving three out of five shots on goal he faced in the Wolves 6-2 win over Itawamba. Summers played the entirety of both matches for the Wolves and one of the two goals allowed against Itawamba was a penalty kick.

"Leo made some really big saves for us in the last two games to protect our leads and keep us ahead," added Cosgrave. "There is still plenty more to come from him also. He has got a very bright future ahead of him!"

Summers and the rest of the men's soccer team return to action this afternoon facing off against the Bears of Southwest at 7 p.m., at John I. Hurst Stadium in Summit.
