POPLARVILLE – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team continued MACCC play with a road trip against Pearl River on Friday, September 20. In a back-and-forth effort where the Wolves played the majority of the match a man down, the Wildcats won, 5-4.
While still at full strength, the Wolves got on the board first as Alvaro De La Torre (A Coruna, Spain) beat the Wildcats keeper with an assist from Ethan Sharpe (Bradford, England) in the ninth minute. The Wolves increased their lead to 2-0 when Yohan Bedoya (Bogota, Colombia) scored with an assist from Hudson McIntyre (Brandon) in the 27th minute. However, the Wildcats cut the lead down to 2-1 with a goal in the same minute. The Wildcats then tied the game with a goal in the 32nd minute making the score, 2-2.
The game then changed for the Wolves as Harrison Willsey (Starkville) was given his second yellow card of the match in the 36th minute forcing the team to play a man down with ten players for the remainder of the match. However, the Wolves continued to fight and show great grit and determination throughout the match including regaining the lead in the 39th minute when Braxton Williams (Flowood) ripped a goal across the net with an assist from Michael Turner (Ridgeland) to make the score, 3-2. That score held throughout the remainder of play in the first half.
The Wildcats then came out in the second half and tied the game at 3-3 with a goal in the 53rd minute. Once again, the Wolves regained the lead in the second half as McIntyre scored in the 62nd minute with an assist from De La Torre making the score, 4-3. However, the Wildcats tied the game with a goal in the 66th minute and then took the lead with a goal in the 73rd minute making the score, 5-4. The Wildcats then held the Wolves off the board for the final 17 minutes of play to secure the win.
Jaime Duran (Madison) saved three of eight shots on goal faced throughout the match.
Co-Lin is now 4-1-0 overall and will return to action hosting Gulf Coast on Tuesday, September 4. The action between the Bulldogs and the Wolves kicks off at 7:30 p.m., at Stone Stadium in Wesson.
