Osorio and Pinilla ranked No. 4 in the nation
TEMPLE, Ariz. - The fall 2017 Oracle/ITA men's tennis rankings has been released and Co-Lin's Sebastian Osorio and Juan Pablo Pinilla are the No. 4 doubles team in the nation. The pair from Bogotá, Colombia won the Region ITA championship in doubles and Osorio won the singles title over Pinilla. Both competed at the ITA National Championships in Rome, Ga. They won two out of three matches finishing in fifth place for the tournament in doubles competition.
Sebastian also received a No. 15 ranking in singles with Juan Pablo at No. 34 nationally.
Coach Brenda Smith stated disappointment in Sebastian's ranking since he finished sixth in the ITA National Championships.
"Sebastian finished No. 8 in the nation last year as a quarterfinalist at the NJCAA National Championships, was ITA All-American, and finished sixth in the fall ITA National Tournament. I'm not sure how the committee came up with a No. 15 ranking," said Coach Smith. Sebastian and Juan Pablo are ranked higher than any other player in Mississippi.
In Region 3 rankings, Sebastian and Juan Pablo are the No. 1 doubles team and the No. 5 and No. 7 singles players respectively. (Top 2 players from Mississippi)
"Sebastian and Juan Pablo train intensely and push each other toward excellence," said Smith. "They show continuous improvement in all areas of their game. Added to their hard work is success in the MACJC and experience competing in two national championship tournaments, we are fortunate to have them at Co-Lin."
The spring season begins February 10th as the Wolves open up against Marion Military and Oxford in Meridian, Miss.
