Tennis Dominates Day Against Southwest

SUMMIT, Miss. – The Co-Lin men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Southwest on Tuesday, March 3 to take on the Bears. Both teams dominated the day, with the men earning an 8-1 victory and the women picking up a 9-0 win.

WOMEN'S MATCH

The Lady Wolves swept all three doubles points as Georgina Labusch (Verl, Germany) and Ruri Takeuchi (Chiba, Japan) earned an 8-3 win at one doubles. Domenica Gruezo (Quito, Ecuador) and Ady Locke (Brookhaven) followed with an 8-2 victory at two doubles, while Allie Grace McNeill (Brookhaven) and Clara Barton Calcote (Wesson) completed the sweep with an 8-3 win at three doubles.

In singles play, the women earned the clean sweep by taking all six. Takeuchi earned a 6-3, 6-0 win at one singles, followed by a 6-0, 7-5 victory from Gruezo at two singles. Labusch secured a 6-3, 6-1 win at three singles, while Locke picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory at four singles. Calcote added a 6-0, 6-1 win at five singles, and Ella Thompson (Brookhaven) closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at six singles to secure the 9-0 win.

MEN'S MATCH

The Wolves swept all three doubles matches. Nikoloz Gurgenidze (Tbilisi, Georgia) and Jake Bucek (Geelong, Australia) earned an 8-4 win at one doubles. Nick Tozer (Belrose, Australia) and Jax Leggett (Bogue Chitto) secured an 8-6 victory at two doubles, while James Rooks (Jackson) and Lane Breland (Perkinston) completed the sweep with an 8-1 win at three doubles.

In singles action, the men claimed five of six matches. Gurgenidze earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at one singles, while Tozer followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at two singles. Bucek picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at three singles, and Rooks added a 6-0, 6-1 victory at four singles. Mason Brand secured a 6-2, 6-1 win at five singles. Leggett fell at six singles, 6-3, 2-6, 3-10.

With the wins, the women improve to 5-0 (4-0), while the men move to 4-1 (3-1). Both teams return to action on the road against Meridian on Thursday, March 5.
