Lady Wolves fall to East Miss 9-5 in game one of two

SCOOBA, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community Lady Wolves scored five runs on eight hits in game one, but it was not enough as the East Mississippi Lady Lions won 9-5. The loss moved the Lady Wolves to 14-8 on the year.

An RBI single from Co-Lin's Paige Hulin got the Lady Wolves on the board in the top of the first. The line drive to left scored Callie Fortenberry and Alex Anthony who led off the game with back-to-back singles giving Co-Lin a 2-0 lead. EMCC scratched one back in the bottom of the frame on a groundout.

The Lady Lions tied things up at two-all in the bottom of the second with a solo home run over the left field fence.

Julie Scheuermann drove in one for the Lady Wolves in the third with a rip to left. The shot scored Anthony and gave Co-Lin a 3-2 advantage.

An RBI double and three RBI singles in a row broke the game open for East Mississippi in the bottom half of the third. The quick offensive strike gave the Lady Lions a 6-3 lead going into the fourth.

Fortenberry pushed Abigail Thornton home to cut the Lady Lions' lead to just two, 6-4, in the fourth, but East Miss plated two in the bottom to pull away to an 8-4 lead.

Morgan Dubose plated Allie Livingston with a groundout in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough as the Lady Wolves dropped the game 9-5.

Bryley Rodriguez earned the victory for East Miss in the circle. She surrendered five runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out seven.

Bailey Root took the loss for the Lady Wolves. She went three innings, allowing six runs on four hits and striking out four.

Fortenberry led Co-Lin at the dish with three hits in four at-bats.
