WESSON, Miss. – Six Co-Lin softball players earned MACJC All-State recognition after a very successful 2018 campaign that saw the Lady Wolves finish 26-19 overall and 17-13 in MACJC play. Co-Lin also hosted the opening round of the MACJC playoffs, a best-of-three series with Pearl River, for the first time since 2009. Co-Lin's Bailey Root, Alex Anthony, and Mackenzie Gros earned MACJC 1st Team All-State recognition, while Paige Hulin, Taylor Bryant, and Tori Pettit earned a 2nd Team All-State nod.
Bailey Root led the Lady Wolves in 2018 in the circle with 10 wins in 25 appearances, including 17 starts. The Silsbee, Texas native had a 2.74 ERA and had 84 strikeouts on the year. On the offensive end, Root had 87 at-bats and hit .287 with 18 RBIs and four home runs.
Alex Anthony, a sophomore shortstop, started in all 44 games this year and had a .905 fielding percentage. At the dish, she batted .311 with 14 RBIs and eight doubles. Anthony was solid for the Lady Wolves throughout the season on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
Mackenzie Gros, a freshman from Labadieville, La., proved a solid arm for Co-Lin and was the Lady Wolves' primary game-two starter in MACJC play. Gros had 23 appearances in the circle and 14 starts on the year and posted a 2.59 ERA. She racked up 36 strikeouts, but most impressively, had no wild pitches and walked only 10 batters through 86.1 innings pitched.
Paige Hulin, a freshman from Mandeville, La., saw action in 42 games this season and proved the Lady Wolves with incredible coverage in centerfield. Hulin, a speedy slap hitter, batted .311 on the year and drove in 27 RBIs. She also led the team in triples with two and in stolen bases with 22. She was caught on the base paths just once all season.
Taylor Bryant, a sophomore from Mize, Miss., was the Lady Wolves' power hitter in 2018 and led the team with eight home runs. The powerful right-hander batted .315 on the year and drove in a team-high 29 RBIs. Bryant also led the roster in walks with 22 and posted 16 steals on the year.
Tori Pettit, a freshman from Florence, Miss., also earned MACJC 2nd Team honors after batting .319 on the year. The freshman played in 38 games on the year and drove in 15 runs. Pettit posted three doubles and one triple on the season.
