SENATOBIA, Miss. – The Lady Wolves of Copiah-Lincoln Community College had a nice bounce-back sweep on Friday as they defeated Northwest 3-2 and 4-0. The wins move Co-Lin to 21-8 overall and to 10-6 in MACJC play. The sweep gives Co-Lin a lot of momentum heading into a big home matchup with East Central Community College on Monday, April 15 in Wesson. Games are set to start at 3 and 5 p.m. and can be watched live at www.colinathletics.com.
Both teams were strong in the circle in game one as the Lady Wolves and Rangers both posted seven hits in the contest. Co-Lin was first to score in the game as a single and a pair of walks loaded the bases in the top of the third. Hannah Walls capitalized on the full bags with a hard ground ball down the third-base line. The double plated Katelyn Hayman and Carly Polk and gave Co-Lin a 2-0 lead.
Northwest got two back in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single, but Kaytlon Ward shut down the Rangers for the remainder of the game.
Ward earned the win for Co-Lin as she went the distance in the seven-inning game, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out eight.
Hayman, Ashley, and Walls led Co-Lin with two hits each, while Walls two RBIs led the way.
Makenzie Smith got the go-ahead in game two as she shut out the Rangers in seven innings. She surrendered zero runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking none.
The game turned into a pitching duel for the next innings before Delaine McMillan led off the seventh with a home run to deep center field, making it 2-0 Co-Lin. Scheuermann and Walls also drove in runs later in the top of the frame off two singles, before Smith closed out the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Walls led the way with two hits, while Scheuermann posted a team-best two RBIs.
