Lady Wolves pick up road win at Gulf Coast
PERKINSTON, Mississippi — Freshman Ainya Sanders' two free throws with 4.5 seconds left in the game gave the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves just enough to pick up their second win of the season over the Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs 52-51. Gulf Coast's Alisha Tucker nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer but it wasn't enough.
"It was not a pretty game, but it was a good win on the road," said Co-Lin head coach Gwyn Young. "Aniya's two free throws with 4.5 seconds left to put us ahead by four points was big."
The Lady Bulldogs led 20-18 lead at the half.
The Lady Wolves went on a 10-0 run to take a 47-40 lead with 3:25 remaining in the game. The Lady Bulldogs trimmed the Co-Lin lead to two in the closing minute in the game, but Sanders' free throws put the Lady Wolves up 52-48.
Sanders had a game-high 20 points for Co-Lin. The only other player in double figures was Orlandrea McGee with 10 points.
Gulf Coast had three players in double figures led by Sharisse Bridges with 12 points. Ayanna McNairy and Tucker had 11 points apiece.
The Lady Wolves return to action Thursday when they host Pearl River in Mullen Gym. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
