Southwest Lady Bears defeat Lady Wolves 79-69
WESSON – Sydni Tangle scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Southwest Lady Bears to a 79-69 win over the Co-Lin Lady Wolves.
Co-Lin (3-3) led the Lady Bears 16-15 after the first quarter. Southwest (3-2) went on a 11-4 run in the second quarter to take a 41-28 lead at halftime. Tangle hit a three-pointer to end the third quarter to give the Lady Bears a 63-45 lead.
The Lady Wolves made a run in the fourth quarter. With 5:03 remaining in the game, Morgan McCray hit a three-pointer to cut the Southwest lead to 68-61. But Tangle would hit another three-pointer to give the Lady Bears a 71-61 lead. Southwest went 6-for-8 at the free throw line in the closing minute and a half to preserve the win.
For Southwest, Mikayla Etienne and Jerryonne Owens scored 17 and 13 points respectively. Ben Taylor chipped in 10 points.
Aniya Sanders led the Lady Wolves with 15 points and nine rebounds. McCray and Derrica Gilbert chipped in 10 points apiece. Gilbert and Jakiylah Esco pulled down seven rebounds apiece.
Next Up: The Lady Wolves travel to Utica on Thursday to take on the Hinds Lady Bulldogs. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
