Lady Wolves Sophomore Earns Postseason Honor

JACKSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team had one member earn a spot in the MACCC All-Conference teams as announced by the conference on Tuesday, March 8. Sophomore guard Aniya Sanders from Vicksburg was named a First Team All-Conference member.

Aniya had a strong season for the Lady Wolves where she averaged 16.5 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game which were third and sixth-best marks overall in the conference. Sanders hit double-digit scoring in 21 of the 24 games played this season and scored 20+ in six and recorded double-doubles in 11 games this season. She also hit a career-high 23 points four times this season against Holmes on January 20, Itawamba on February 7, Northwest on February 17, and against Jones in the MACCC Conference Tournament on February 21. Sanders recorded a career-high in rebounds with 17 in her double-double against Northwest on February 17. For the season, Aniya scored a total of 396 points which was fourth-most in the conference and 209 rebounds which was fifth-most in the conference.

"Aniya was big for us all season," stated head coach Gwyn Young. "She was our leading scorer and rebounder and stepped up to the plate every time we challenged her."

"She is a physically tough and strong player and competitor. She also did a great job of posting up bigger opponents throughout the season," added Young. "Aniya has a great desire to win that fueled our team this season."
