Esco Signs With Senior College

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team saw one of their own sign with a senior college to continue her playing career. Jakiylah Esco, a forward from Ridgeland, recently signed with Xavier University in New Orleans.

Esco started and played all 26 games for the Lady Wolves in her sophomore season averaging 21 minutes per game along with 4.9 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game while shooting 48.3 percent from the floor. Her high scoring point of the season came when she scored 12 in a 63-57 loss against Pearl River, while she also totaled a season and career high 15 rebounds in a 54-49 loss against Meridian. Esco also had double digit scoring two more times during the season with 10 points in a 69-64 win against Northeast and had 10 points in a 63-61 win against Northwest. As a freshman, Esco played in 14 games, starting in two, and averaged 18.8 minutes per game, 3.9 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game, and one block per game.

"Jakiylah was a good team player and leader for our team," stated Lady Wolves head coach Gwyn Young. "She worked hard on defense and rebounding and was a big presence on the inside for us. We are going to miss Jakiylah playing for us and wish her a successful career at the next level."

The Lady Wolves finished the 2021-22 season with a 17-9 overall record, 9-5 in conference play and reached the third round of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament after also playing in the MACCC Basketball Tournament.
