Lady Wolves Advance in Region 23 Tournament

EUNICE, La. -  The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team hit the road to face off against LSU-Eunice in the first round of the NJCAA Region 23 Women's Basketball Tournament. The No. 10 seeded Lady Wolves beat the No. 6 seeded Lady Bengals, 67-64.

The Lady Wolves flexed their muscles early as they outscored the Lady Bengals, 20-15, and held a lead by that margin at the end of play in the first quarter. The Lady Wolves continued their strong play into the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Bengals, 20-12, to push their lead to 40-27 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Lady Bengals have the better quarter as they outscored the Lady Wolves, 18-11, but the Lady Wolves held the lead at 51-45 heading to the final quarter of play. The fourth quarter was the closest quarter of the night as the Lady Bengals outscored, the Lady Wolves, 19-16. However, the Lady Wolves were able to hold off the late rally attempt by the Lady Bengals including a strong defensive showing on the final two potential game-tying three pointer attempts to secure the 67-64 victory.

Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) led the way for the Lady Wolves as she posted a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds along with three assists and one steal while Eymani Key (Lafayette, LA) had 13 points with six rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Jalyn Applewhite (Gulfport) had eight points with seven rebounds along with one steal. Maddison Mitchell (Baton Rouge, LA), Zion Nelson (Byram), and Amari Barnes (Tylertown) had six points apiece while Tyra Johnson (Morton) had five points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 15-11 overall and advances to the Region 23 Quarterfinals for the first time since the 2021-22 season where they will be on the road against Itawamba on Saturday, March 7. Tip-off between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Indians is set for 2 p.m., at the Davis Events Center in Fulton.
