Lady Wolves Blast Lady Eagles

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team returned to conference play hosting Hinds on Tuesday, October 8. The Lady Wolves got back into the win column beating the Lady Eagles, 4-1.

"I thought that we played some really good combinations to break them down early on in the game," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "Our movement and tempo were excellent throughout the game."

The Lady Wolves got on the board as Avery Rankin (Brandon) beat the Lady Eagles goalkeeper with an assist from Emmi Cook (Chesterfield, England) in the ninth minute. Rankin then earned a brace for the match with her second goal of the game just three minutes later finding the back of the net this time with an assist from Nimue Cutrer (St. Martin) increasing the lead to 2-0.

Alisa Johnson (Leakesville) then got involved in the scoring as she headed the ball into the net as Cook collected her second assist of the game in the 22nd minute making the Lady Wolves lead 3-0. The lone goal for the Lady Eagles came in the 40th minute cutting the Lady Wolves lead down to 3-1 which held throughout the remainder of the first half.

The final goal for the Lady Wolves came off the foot of Nimue Cutrer as Cook nabbed her third assist of the game in the 75th minute making the score, 4-1. The Lady Wolves continued to look for scoring opportunities while stalling out the Lady Eagles attack to secure the victory.

"Getting three points in this conference is never easy so it was nice for the girls to get the reward of this win that they deserve for their hard work recently," added Cosgrave.

Co-Lin is now 2-3-3 overall, 2-2-2 in conference play, and will resume MACCC play by hosting East Central on Friday, October 11 for their final regular season match at home. Kickoff between the Lady Warriors and Lady Wolves is set for 1 p.m., at Stone Stadium in Wesson. The Lady Wolves will also celebrate Sophomore Day and honor their sophomore members before the start of the match.
