WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team resumed MACCC play by hosting Meridian on Friday, October 3. The Lady Wolves earned a 3-1 come from behind win against the Eagles.
The Eagles got on the board first as they took advantage of a bad pass by the Lady Wolves and found the back of the net in the second minute to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Lady Wolves later returned the favor as Campbell Miller (Madison) intercepted a pass by the Eagles keeper and then blasted the ball past her to tie the game at 1-1 in the 16th minute.
The Lady Wolves then took that momentum and ran with it getting off five shots before the end of the first half but could not take the lead as the horn sounded for halftime and the match remained tied.
However, the Lady Wolves scored twice in the second half as Miller beat the keeper with an assist from Jess Abrantes (Peterborough, England) for her second goal of the match in the 62nd minute making the score, 2-1. Abrantes then scored in the 75th minute with an assist from Ella-Mai Bale (Peterborough, England) increasing the lead to 3-1. The Lady Eagles then fired off two shots late in the match, but neither found the back of the net as the Lady Wolves secured the 3-1 come from behind victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Conway (Huddersfield, England) saved eight of nine shots on goal faced throughout the match.
Co-Lin improves to 4-2-2 overall, 2-1-2 in MACCC play, and will return to action on the road against Pearl River on Tuesday, October 7. Kickoff between the No. 15 Wildcats and the Lady Wolves is set for 5 p.m., in Poplarville.
