Tennis Sweeps Matches with Northeast
WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's and Women's Tennis teams wrapped up the home portion of the regular season by hosting Northeast on Tuesday, April 1. The Wolves beat the Tigers, 7-2, while the Lady Wolves beat the Lady Tiger, 9-0, to sweep the day as the teams celebrated Sophomore Day.
In the women's match, the Lady Wolves swept the doubles pairings as Yariange Bello (Caracas, Venezuela) and Munashe Bera (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) won one doubles, 8-0, while Sophie Sisson (Moss Point) and Georgina Labusch (Verl, Germany) along with Allie Grace McNeill (Brookhaven) and Ann-Clark Van (Jayess) won two and three doubles respectively with 8-1 sets.
In the singles matches, Bello won one singles with identical 6-0 sets while Bera took two singles, 6-1 and 6-0, with Labusch winning three singles, 6-0 and 6-1. Sisson took four singles, 6-1 and 6-2, while Van picked up the win at five singles, 6-1 and 6-0, while Gracie Smith (Brookhaven) picked up the sweep with the win at six singles 6-1 and 4-1 (Retired).
In the men's matches, the Wolves swept the doubles pairings Ege Altas (Istanbul, Turkey) and Jake Bucek (Geelong, Australia) won one double, 8-5. With the win, Altas and Bucek also clinched the MACCC Men's Double Conference Championship and earned an automatic berth into the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis Tournament later this year. Robert Adcock (Brookhaven) and Tristin Rollins (Brookhaven) took two doubles, 8-2, while Simon Cooper (Sumrall) and Mason Brand (Mantee) won three doubles, 8-5.
In the singles matches, the Wolves won four with Altas winning one singles with a pair of 6-3 sets while Adcock won three singles, 6-1 and 6-0. Cooper took five singles at 7-5 and 6-1 while Leggett won six singles, 6-3 and 6-2. The two losses for the Wolves were Bucek at two singles, 1-6 6-2 4-6, and Brand at four singles with a pair of 1-6 sets.
The Wolves are now 7-8 overall, 6-4 in MACCC play, while the Lady Wolves are 4-10 overall, 4-5 in MACCC play, Both teams will wrap up the regular season with a road match against Coastal Alabama on Saturday, April 5 at the Mobile Tennis Center.
