Tennis Wins Both Matches Against Hinds
WESSON – The Co-Lin men's and women's tennis teams hosted Hinds on Friday, March 20. Both teams picked up wins on the day, with the men earning a 9-0 victory and the women securing a 6-3 win.
WOMEN'S MATCH
The Lady Wolves claimed two of three doubles points as Georgina Labusch (Verl, Germany) and Ruri Takeuchi (Chiba, Japan) fell at one doubles, 8-9 (3-7). Domenica Gruezo (Quito, Ecuador) and Ady Locke (Brookhaven) responded with a 9-8 (7-3) win at two doubles, while Allie Grace McNeill (Brookhaven) and Clara Barton Calcote (Wesson) secured an 8-4 victory at three doubles.
In singles play, the women won four of six matches. Takeuchi earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at one singles. Gruezo fell at two singles, 4-6, 5-7, while Labusch dropped her match at three singles, 2-6, 1-6. Calcote secured a 6-4, 6-2 win at four singles, followed by a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory from Locke at five singles. Ella Thompson (Brookhaven) added a 6-4, 6-4 win at six singles to clinch the 6-3 victory.
MEN'S MATCH
The Wolves swept the doubles matches as Nikoloz Gurgenidze (Tbilisi, Georgia) and Jake Bucek (Geelong, Australia) earned an 8-4 win at one doubles. Nick Tozer (Belrose, Australia) and Jax Leggett (Bogue Chitto) followed with an 8-3 victory at two doubles, while James Rooks (Jackson) and Lane Breland (Perkinston) completed the sweep with an 8-1 win at three doubles.
In singles action, the men swept all six matches. Gurgenidze earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at one singles, while Tozer followed with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) victory at two singles. Bucek picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at three singles, and Rooks added a 6-3, 6-0 victory at four singles. Mason Brand secured a 6-2, 6-3 win at five singles, and Leggett closed out the day with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at six singles to complete the 9-0 win.
The women improve to 8-1 (6-0), while the men move to 6-3 (5-1). Both teams return to action hosting Itawamba on Tuesday, March 24.
