Co-Lin Wolves sweep doubleheader from Southwest

WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolves came from behind to defeat the Southwest Bears 15-12 in game one of a doubleheader. A six-run third inning gave the Wolves a lopsided 11-1 win in five innings.

"We didn't play very well in game one, but our bullpen did a good job of coming in and shutting some things down," said Co-Lin head coach Clay Smith. "We scored late and got some momentum. We hit the ball well all day and Peyton Parker had another great outing on the mound in game two."

GAME 1

Co-Lin's Peyton Parker (West Monroe, LA/West Ouachita High School) broke the 12-all tie with a lead off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Wolves their first lead of the game. They added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the 15-12 win.

Southwest score three runs in the first inning. The Wolves would answer with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Will-Lawson Harkins (Carthage/Leake Academy) reached on an error and scored on Marquez Hudson's (Monticello/Lawrence County High School) single to left. Hudson stole second and scored on Kenner Bizot's (Wesson/Wesson High School) single to right field.

The Bears would score five runs in the top of the third inning to take a 8-2 lead on Easton Porter's two-run homer. Jerod Williams followed with a solo shot to left field.

Southwest added another run in the top of the fourth to increase their lead to 9-2.

Co-Lin picked up two runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-RBI double by Harkins. Tom Biggs (Columbia, LA/West Monroe High School) with follow with an RBI single to left to close the Bears lead to 9-5.

In the top of the fifth, Southwest would plate two more runs. The Wolves would answer with four runs in the bottom half of the inning as Biggs would hit a grand slam home run to center field closing the Bears lead to 11-9.

The Bears would add another run in the top of the sixth. Co-Lin would tie the game at 12 in the bottom of the sixth on Harkins three-run home run to right field.

Leading the 16 hit Co-Lin attack was Harkins who went 3-for-5 at the plate driving in five runs. Biggs had three hits and five RBIs. Hudson, Parker and Noah Freeman (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) had two hits apiece. Adding support with a hit apiece were Bizot, Cade Lowery (Wesson/Wesson Attendance Center) and Ben White (Natchez/Cathedral High School)

Lane Hanna (Union/Union High School) pitched three strong innings to get the win for the Wolves. He scattered two hits and struck out two in three innings of work. Starter Tanner Watts (Brookhaven/Brookhaven Academy) allowed eight runs (two earned) on seven hits, struck out three and walked one in 2.2 innings. Sevante Quinn (Brookhaven/Brookhaven High School) relieved Watts in the third inning. He allowed three runs on three hits and struck out two in two innings of work. Lance Elsen (Madison/Canton Academy) followed Quinn giving up one run on one hit and walking one. Hunter Reinike (Terry/Copiah Academy) pitched a hitless ninth inning.

GAME 2

It was all Wolves in game two as Parker had a dominating performance on the mound. He would allow one, scatter three hits, strike out seven and walk one in five innings.

Co-Lin would take a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Hudson's RBI double.

The Bears would tie the game at 1-all in the top of the third on Gage Gregory's RBI single. The Wolves would explode for six runs in the bottom of the inning. Parker's RBI single would give Co-Lin a 2-1 lead. Hudson would follow with a two-run shot over the left field fence. Reed Barlow would drive in two runs and Braydon Muse's RBI single would give the Wolves a 7-1 lead.

The Wolves would put the game away in the bottom of the fifth inning. Aiden Singley, Biggs, Parker and Hudson would hit RBI singles to give the Co-Lin the 11-1 win.

At the plate for Co-Lin, Hudson would go 3-for-4 and four RBIs. Parker, Harkins and Barlow would have multiple hits. Biggs, Muse and Singley would add support with a single apiece.
