Last second shot sinks Wolves
DECATUR – East Central's Timothy McElroy's basket with :04 seconds left gave the Warriors a 82-81 win over the Co-Lin Wolves. Dee Merriweather's (Memphis/East Memphis High School) trey with 42 seconds left gave the Wolves their first lead of the game at 81-80.
Co-Lin got off to a slow start trailing by as many 21 points in the first half. The Warriors took a 44-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.
East Central looked to be cruising in the second half, but the Wolves went on a 20-9 run to cut the Warrior lead to 74-65 with 6:03 remaining in the game. A pair of free throws by Quandarius Studaway (Clinton/Clinton High School), a trey by Demarcus Ellzey (Magnolia/South Pike High School) and a bucket by Jordan Johnson (Baton Rouge, LA/Madison Prep Academy) pulled the Wolves to within two points 78-76 with 2:25 remaining. Johnson hit a pair of free throws with 1:59 remaining to pull Co-Lin to 80-78 before Merriweather's go ahead three-pointer.
Merriweather had a game-high 28 points to lead the Wolves. Ellzey added 15 points. Johnson chipped in 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds. JD Allen (Wesson/Wesson Attendance Center) pulled down eight rebounds and dished out four assists. Studaway also dished out four assists.
Devin Carter led the Warriors with 18 points. Landyn Shows followed with 14 points. JaMichael Wilson and Demajion Topps chipped in 13 points apiece.
