Wolves Drop Game Against Tigers
BOONEVILLE – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team resumed MACCC play with a road game against Northeast on Saturday, January 31. The Wolves had a strong showing early in the game, but could not sustain the effort as the Tigers picked up an 85-63 win.
The Wolves and Tigers traded baskets and leads in the opening minutes of the first half, but the Tigers held the lead, 8-6, with 16:27 left to play. The offenses for both teams then went cold as neither scored for nearly three minutes of game time; however, the Wolves then went on a 6-5 scoring run to cut the lead down to 13-12 with 10:40 remaining after a made layup by Tyrell Bowles (Springdale, MD). The Wolves then went on a quick 4-3 scoring run to take a 16-15 lead over the Tigers after a jumper by Moustapha Salekh (Ngekoh, Senegal) with 8:06 left on the board. However, the Tigers then closed out the first half with a 19-6 scoring run to take a 34-22 lead over the Wolves as both teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.
The Wolves opened the second half with an 8-3 scoring to cut the lead down to 37-30 with 17:28 remaining. However, the Tigers responded with a 16-4 scoring run to push their lead to 53-34 with 13:03 left on the clock. The Wolves continued to try and fight their way back as they went on an 12-8 scoring run cutting the Tigers lead down to 61-46 with 7:20 left to play in the game. The Tigers then closed out the game outscoring the Wolves, 24-17, to seal the 85-63 win.
Tyrell Bowles led the way for the Wolves as he had 17 points with six rebounds, two assists, and five blocks while Moustapha Salekh had 15 points with two rebounds and one assist.
Dylan Creggett (DeSoto, TX) had six points with Koie Williams (Philadelphia) and Jamei McGhee (Heidelberg) adding five points each. Morris Hammond (Ridgeland) and Caleb Crozier (Yazoo City) had four points each while Tristian Lucas (Pearl) had three points with Stevent Watkins (Ridgeland) and Zach Thompson (Hattiesburg) adding two points each to round out the scoring for the Wolves.
Co-Lin is now 10-8 overall, 3-2 in MACCC play and will return to action hosting Coahoma on Saturday, February 7. Tip-off between the Tigers and Wolves is set for 3 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
