Wolves Celebrate Sophomore Night
WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team played host to Gulf Coast for their regular season home finale on Thursday, February 26. The Bulldogs beat the Wolves in a hard-fought game, 65-59.
The teams traded baskets and leads throughout the opening minutes of the first half, but the Wolves ultimately held an early 8-7 lead after a three-pointer by Dylan Creggett (DeSoto, TX) with 14:50 left to play. The Bulldogs then responded with a 6-5 scoring run as the game was tied at 13-13 after a three-pointer by Morris Hammond (Ridgeland) with 8:46 remaining. The Bulldogs then went on an 11-3 scoring run to take a 24-16 lead over the Wolves with 3:43 left on the clock. The Wolves then closed out the first half with a 7-6 scoring run, but the Bulldogs held a 30-23 lead over the Wolves as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.
The Bulldogs opened the second half with a 10-5 scoring run to extend the lead to 40-28 with 15:54 left on the clock. The Wolves then went on a 16-7 scoring run to cut the lead to 47-44 after another three-pointer by Hammond with 10:14 left to play. The Bulldogs responded with a 10-9 scoring run to increase their lead to 57-53 with 3:37 remaining in the second half. The Bulldogs then closed out the game with an 8-6 scoring run to seal the 65-59 win over the Wolves.
Tyrell Bowles (Springdale, MD) led the way for the Wolves offensively with 17 points and narrowly missed a double-double with seven rebounds along with three assists and four blocks while Morris Hammond posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds along with three assists, one steal, and one block. Dylan Creggett had 10 points with one rebound and one steal.
Moustapha Salekh (Ngekoh, Senegal) flirted with a double-double performance with eight points and nine rebounds while Koie Williams had five points and six assists and Caleb Crozier (Yazoo City) added four points, two rebounds, four assists, and two steals to round out the scoring for the Wolves.
Co-Lin is now 13-13 overall, 6-7 in MACCC play and will return to action on the road against East Central to wrap up the regular season Monday, March 2. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Warriors is set for 7:30 p.m. at Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium in Decatur.
