RIDGELAND – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season after a 7-1 victory on the road over Holmes Community on Tuesday, September 7.
Freshman forward Hardy Lewis (Brandon) led the Wolves attack with three goals and one assist throughout the match. Lewis picked up his assist on the first goal of the match as sophomore forward Eli Fratesi (Leland) found the back of the net in the 16th minute giving the Wolves a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore midfielder Joel Ibanez (Isle of Man, England) increased the Wolves lead in the 19th minute with a successful penalty kick conversion while Lewis picked up his first goal of his hat trick for the match in the 24th minute with an assist from freshman defender Eli Harrist (Brandon) to give the Wolves a 3-0 lead.
The lone goal for the Bulldogs came from Niyonizigiye Claude in the 37th minute cutting the lead down to 3-1; however, Lewis wasted little time regaining a three-goal lead for the Wolves as he collected his second goal of the match in the 40th minute with an assist from Fratesi.
Ibanez scored his second goal of the match in the 43rd minute with an assist from sophomore midfielder Jared Thompson (Hattiesburg) giving the Wolves a 5-1 lead that the squad held on to as the match entered halftime.
The final two goals for the Wolves came early in the second half as Lewis completed his hat trick with an assist from sophomore midfielder Matt Preston (Manchester, England) in the 53rd minute while Thompson scored an unassisted goal in the 59th minute to give the Wolves a 7-1 lead. The Wolves then smothered the Bulldogs attack for the remainder of the game sealing the victory.
Co-Lin improves to 2-0 overall on the season and will begin South Division play with a road contest against Southwest Mississippi Community College on Friday, September 10. The action on the pitch will kickoff at 4 p.m.
