Wolves Roar Past Lions

SCOOBA – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team opened MACCC play on the road against East Mississippi on Tuesday, September 17. The Wolves erased an early deficit en route to a 6-1 victory over the Lions.

"The boys had a great response yet again after going down a goal early," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "They bounced back really quickly and showed their quality going forward throughout the match."

The Lions got on the board first with a goal in the ninth minute making the lead 1-0. However, the Wolves wasted little time with their response as Yohan Bedoya (Bogota, Colombia) found the back of the net with an assist from Lucas Giacomini (Newcastle, England) tying the game at 1-1 in the 13th minute. Five minutes later, Alvaro De La Torre (A Coruna, Spain) blasted the ball past the Lions keeper with an assist from Francisco Miquel (Bogota, Colombia) to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead. The Wolves then found a third goal in the first half as Sebastain Narvaez settled a ball in the box off a throw from Javion Roberts and then found the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-1 in the 42nd minute. That lead held for the Wolves as the first half ended.

"We spoke about a few things tactically at halftime that we needed to fix, and the boys came out flying," added Cosgrave. "It was great to watch the opening 25 minutes of the second half when we were attacking. It was free flowing fast paced attacking soccer and that is how we went to play."

The Wolves scored three goals in the opening nine minutes of the second half as De La Torre got his brace for the match with his second goal off an assist from Hudson McIntyre (Brandon) making it 4-1 in the 48th minute. Five minutes later, Miquel beat the Lions keeper with an assist from Bedoya to make the lead 5-1 in the 53rd minute while the Wolves scored their sixth goal in the very next minute as Bedoya got his brace with his second goal of the match off the second assist of the match for McIntyre. The Wolves continued to push the pace and try to extend the lead while stifling the Lions offense to secure the 6-1 victory.

Jaime Duran (Madison) allowed one goal and made three saves on four shots on goal faced while playing 59 minutes with Brennan Thomas (Gallman) made two saves in 31 minutes of action in the net.

"Every game in this conference is difficult, so coming away with a win and three points on the road is a great start for our team," stated Cosgrave.

Co-Lin is now 4-0-0 overall and will return to action on the road against Pearl River on Friday, September 20. The action between the Wolves and the No. 11 Wildcats is set to kick off at 7 p.m., on the pitch of the PRCC Soccer Complex in Poplarville.
