Wolves Play to A Tie With Indians

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team returned to MACCC play hosting Itawamba on Friday, September 27. The Wolves and Indians tied, 1-1.

"Itawamba is a well-coached and organized team," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "They were very hard to break down and frustrated us early in the match."

The Indians got on the board first scoring in the eighth minute of the match on a counterattack to take a 1-0 lead. The Indians defense then stalled out most of the forward movement and momentum for the Wolves allowing just four shots and only two on goal throughout the first half as the Indians took their 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Wolves then tied the game midway through the second half as Francisco Miquel (Bogota, Colombia) stepped up and nailed a penalty kick goal in the 69th minute making the score, 1-1. The Wolves then got back-to-back chances to take the lead late in the game as Yohan Bedoya (Bogota, Colombia) took one penalty kick that was saved, but a foul was called against the Indians keeper allowing a second penalty kick which was missed off the goalpost and the Wolves couldn't put the rebound past the Indians keeper. Ultimately the Indians held off the late surge by the Wolves for a go-ahead goal to finish the game in a 1-1 tie.

"We have to do a better job of managing our emotions and problem-solving situations on the field because that led to us playing the majority of the game in a style that they wanted us to rather than our own," added Cosgrave. "We could have won the match at the end with the penalty kicks but anytime you get points in our league, it's a bonus."

Co-Lin is now 4-1-2 overall, 1-1-2 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Jones on Friday, October 4. The action on the pitch between the No. 10 Bobcats and the Wolves kicks off at 3 p.m., at Stone Stadium in Wesson.
