Lady Wolves Dominate Weekend at Coyote Classic

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Co-Lin Softball team hit the road to Gulf Shores, Alabama to participate in the Coyote Classic with a pair of games on Friday, February 13, and two more on Saturday, February 14. The Lady Wolves swept the weekend as they outscored their opponents by a 45-3 margin including back-to-back shutouts.

CO-LIN 13 LAMAR STATE 1

Lamar State took an early lead over the Lady Wolves as they used a solo home run in the bottom of the first to score their only run of the game and make the score, 1-0.

The Lady Wolves responded with a pair of runs in the top of the second as Emilie Williams (Summit) and Annie Poole (Brookhaven) drew back-to-back walks to start the inning. Both runners advanced to scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Mady McCrory (Purvis) while Williams tied the game while scoring on an RBI-single by Brooklyn Reine (Kentwood, LA) while Poole then scored on a sacrifice bunt by Abby Burnette (Brookhaven) to give the Lady Wolves a 2-1 lead.

The Lady Wolves then added to their lead with a single run in the top of the third as Stella Roberts (Raymond) hit a one-out single, stole second, and then scored on an RBI-single by Emilie Williams increasing the lead to 3-1. The Lady Wolves doubled their run total with three runs in the top of the fifth as Ayari VanBlaircom (Daphne, AL) hit a leadoff double, took third on a groundout, and then scored on an RBI-single by Morgan Chisolm (Madison). Later in the inning, Poole blasted a full count pitch over the fence in centerfield for a two-run home run making the score, 6-1.

The Lady Wolves added a single run in the top of the sixth as Reine hit a leadoff double, stole third, and later scored on a passed ball making the score, 7-1. The Lady Wolves then exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh as Williams drew a leadoff walk. Later in the inning, Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) reached on an error while a single by Reine loaded the bases with one out. Later in the inning, Williams and Phillips scored on a two-RBI single by Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) while a two-RBI double by VanBlaircom scored Reine and Laiche increasing the lead to 11-1 Roberts then crushed the first pitch she saw over the left field fence for a two-run home run making the score, 13-1. The Seahawks then went strikeout, double, flyout, strikeout in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 13-1 victory for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled 13 hits as Brooklyn Reine led the way with three hits while Ayari VanBlaircom, Stella Roberts, Annie Poole, and Noelle Laiche had two hits apiece with Morgan Chisolm and Emilie Williams had one hit each. VanBlaircom, Roberts, Poole, and Laiche had two RBIs apiece while Chisolm, Williams, Reine, and Abby Burnette had one RBI each.

Ava Browder (Picayune) got the start and improved to 2-1 overall with six innings pitched while allowing one earned run on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts while Lily Crum (Vidalia, LA) pitched one inning of scoreless relief with one hit and two strikeouts.

CO-LIN 8 SOUTHERN UNION 0

The game was scoreless after one inning, but the Lady Wolves broke through with their first two runs in the top of the second as Emilie Williams hit a leadoff double, stole third, and then scored on an RBI-single by Brooklyn Reine. Reine later scored on a sacrifice by Abby Burnette making the score, 2-0.

The Lady Wolves added a solo run in the top of the third as Brelie Phillips drew a leadoff walk and then later scored on an RBI-double by Annie Poole increasing the lead to 3-0. The Lady Wolves added two more runs in the top of the fourth as Reine drew a leadoff walk while Addison Lindley (Madison) then smashed a 0-1 pitch over the centerfield fence for a two-run home run making the score, 5-0.

The Lady Wolves added their final three runs in the top of the fifth as Poole crushed a full count pitch over the fence in centerfield for a leadoff solo home run. Later in the inning, Williams hit a one-out single, stole second and advanced to third on an error while Reine drew a walk. Williams and Reine then scored on an error increasing the lead to 8-0.

Southern Union was then retired in order in the bottom of the fifth to secure the victory for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled seven hits as Annie Poole and Emilie Williams had two hits apiece while Brelie Phillips, Brooklyn Reine, and Addison Lindley had one hit each. Poole and Lindley had two RBIs apiece to lead the team while Reine and Abby Burnette had one RBI each.

Addison Lindley got the start and improved to 2-0 overall with a complete game no-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts with the walk the only baserunner that was allowed to Southern Union in the game.

CO-LIN 8 COASTAL ALABAMA NORTH 0

The Lady Wolves scored their first three runs in the bottom of the first as Ayari VanBlaircom hit a one-out double and then scored on an RBI-triple by Annie Poole. Poole then scored on an RBI-single by Emilie Williams who later stole second and scored on an RBI-single by Morgan Chisolm making the score, 3-0.

The Lady Wolves added four runs in the third as Williams hit a one-out double and then scored on an RBI-double by Brooklyn Reine increasing the lead to 4-0. Chisolm then doubled while a single by Stella Roberts loaded the bases with one out. Reine then scored as Chisolm was forced out while Katelynn Malone (Bogue Chitto) reached on a fielder's choice. Roberts then scored on an RBI-bunt single by Noelle Laiche while Malone scored on an error on the play increasing the lead to 7-0.

The final run for the Lady Wolves came in the bottom of the fifth as Chisolm hit a one-out single, advanced to second on a second-straight single by Olivia Higginbotham (Hernando) while Malone delivered a walk-off RBI-double scoring Chisolm and giving the Lady Wolves an 8-0 victory over the Coyotes.

The Lady Wolves totaled 12 hits as Chisolm went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate while Emilie Williams had two hits with Ayari VanBlaircom, Annie Poole, Brooklyn Reine, Stella Roberts, Olivia Higginbotham, Katelynn Malone, and Noelle Laiche adding one hit each. Malone led the Lady Wolves with two RBIs while Williams, Reine, Chisolm, and Laiche had one RBI each.

Maddie West (Gonzales, LA) got the start and improved to 2-0 with the complete game shutout effort allowing one hit with two walks and five strikeouts.

CO-LIN 15 PENSACOLA STATE 2

The Pirates got on the board first with a single run in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. However, the Lady Wolves answered with a five-run bottom half as Ayari VanBlaircom hit a one-out triple to get the offense going. After Annie Poole drew a walk, Emilie Williams hit a two-RBI double scoring VanBlaircom and Poole to give the Lady Wolves a 2-1 lead. After Brooklyn Reine hit a single, both Willliams and Reine scored on a two-RBI single by Morgan Chisolm who advanced to second on the play. Chisolm then scored on an RBI-double by Addison Lindley increasing the Lady Wolves lead to 5-1.

The Pirates then hit a leadoff solo home run in the top of the second to cut the lead down to 5-2. The Lady Wolves responded with three run in the bottom of the second as VanBlaircom hit a leadoff single and then scored on an RBI triple by Poole who then later scored on an RBI-groundout by Reine making the score, 7-2. Chisolm and Lindley then hit back-to-back singles while Stella Roberts then hit an RBI-single scoring Chisolm and increasing the lead to 8-2.

The Lady Wolves then exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the third as Brelie Phillips hit a leadoff double and then scored on an RBI-triple by VanBlaircom. Poole then drew a walk while Williams was hit-by-pitch to load the bases with no outs. Later in the inning, VanBlaircom and Poole scored on a two-RBI single by Chisolm as Mady McCrory was then brought in as a pinch runner while the Lady Wolves held an 11-2 lead. Williams and McCrory then scored on a two-RBI double by Lindley making the score, 13-2. Roberts then blasted a 2-1 pitch over the fence in left field for a two-run home run giving the Lady Wolves a 15-2 lead.

The final two innings were scoreless as the Lady Wolves allowed the Pirates just two baserunners via a single in the fourth and a walk in the fifth to secure the victory.

The Lady Wolves totaled 16 hits as Ayari VanBlaircom, Morgan Chisolm, and Addison Lindley all went 3-for-3 at the plate while Brelie Phillips and Stella Roberts had two hits apiece with Annie Poole, Emilie Williams, and Brooklyn Reine having one hit each. Chisolm led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with four while Lindley and Roberts had three RBIs apiece with VanBlaircom, Poole, and Reine adding one RBI each.

Addison Lindley got the start and improved to 3-0 overall with three innings pitched allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with one walk and one strikeout. Lily Crum pitched two innings of scoreless relief with one hit, one walk, and three strikeouts.

Co-Lin improves to 7-1 overall and will return to action with their home opener against Baton Rouge on Wednesday, February 18. First pitch between the Lady Bears and the Lady Wolves is set for 2 p.m.
