Lady Wolves Sweep Conference Opener

CLARKSDALE – The Co-Lin Softball team hit the road to face off against Coahoma to open MACCC play on Friday, March 6. The Lady Wolves swept the Lady Tigers taking game one, 15-2, and game two, 13-1.

GAME ONE

The Lady Wolves wasted no time getting on the board as they scored five runs in the top of the first as Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) crushed the second pitch of the game over the centerfield fence for a leadoff solo home run.  Ayari VanBlaircom (Daphne, AL) then reached base on an error and advanced to second on the play. Later in the inning, VanBlaircom stole third while an error on the play allowed her to score and increase the lead to 2-0. Emilie Williams (Summit) then drew a walk, stole second, and then later scored on an RBI-single by Morgan Chisolm (Madison). Mady McCrory (Purvis) then drew a walk to put two runners on with two outs. Abby Burnette (Brookhaven) the hit an RBI-double scoring Chisolm while McCrory later scored on a wild pitch increasing the lead to 5-0.

The Lady Wolves increased their lead with two runs in the top of the second as VanBlaircom hit a one-out single to get the offense started. Later in the inning, Williams hit an RBI-double scoring VanBlaircom while Addison Lindley (Madison) followed with a second-straight RBI-double scoring Williams and making the score, 7-0.

The Lady Tigers scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the second cutting the lead down to 7-1. However, the Lady Wolves responded with three runs in the top of the third as Burnette walked and Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) singled to put two runners on with no outs. Burnette then scored as Phillips reached on an error while Laiche then scored on a sacrifice fly by VanBlaircom. Phillips then scored on a sacrifice bunt by Brooklyn Reine increasing the lead to 10-1.

The Lady Wolves added their final five runs in the top of the fourth as Lindley hit a leadoff single. Landry Loper (Olive Branch) was then brought in as a pinch runner and stole second while Chisolm drew a walk. Loper was then forced out as Anna Grace Rice (Greenwood) reached on a fielder's choice while Chisolm then scored on an RBI-single by Burnette increasing the lead to 11-1. Ahlyana Houston (Summit) then hit an RBI-single scoring Rice while both Burnette and Houston scored on a two-RBI double by Phillips making the score, 14-1. Later in the inning, Bailey Parks (Smithdale) hit an RBI-single scoring Phillips and extending the lead to 15-1.

The Lady Tigers scored one run in the bottom of the fifth and loaded the bases with two outs; however, a fielder's choice ended the game and sealed the 15-3 victory for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled 13 hits as a team as Brelie Phillips, Addison Lindley, and Abby Burnette had two hits apiece while Ayari VanBlaircom, Bailey Parks, Emilie Williams, Morgan Chisolm, Cadence Sheppard (Hattiesburg), Noelle Laiche, and Ahlyana Houston had one hit each. Philliips led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with three while Burnette had two with VanBlaircom, Brookleyn Reine, Parks, Williams, Lindley, Chisolm, and Houston had one RBI each.

Addison Lindley got the start and improved to 9-1 overall while pitching three innings and allowing one earned run on one hit with three walks and two strikeouts. Maddie West (Gonzales, LA) pitched two innings of relief allowing one earned run on three hits with one walk and one strikeout.

GAME TWO

Once again, the Lady Wolves got on the board first as they plated two runs in the top of the first. Ayari VanBlaircom singled, Brooklyn Reine reached on an error, and Emilie Williams singled to load the bases with no outs. VanBlaircom then scored as Reine was forced out while Addison Lindley reached on a fielder's choice while an RBI-double by Morgan Chisolm scored Williams giving the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Wolves then added to their lead with four runs as Mady McCrory and Noelle Laiche hit back-to-back singles to start the top of the second. Later in the inning, McCrory scored on a sacrifice fly by VanBlaircom while Laiche scored as Reine reached on an error pushing the lead to 4-0. Williams then hit an RBI-double scoring Reine while Lindley followed by reaching on an error with Williams scoring on the play to make the lead, 6-0.

The Lady Wolves then added six runs in the top of the third as once again McCrory and Laiche hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Both then scored on a two-RBI triple by Brelie Phillips who then scored on an RBI-single by VanBlaircom increasing the lead to 9-0. Reine then singled while an error on the play put runners on the corners with no outs. The Lady Wolves then executed a double steal as VanBlaircom stole home while Reine swiped second. Reine then scored on an RBI-double by Williams. Williams then stole third and later stole home to increase the lead to 12-0.

The Lady Tigers scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth making the score, 12-1. However, the Lady Wolves got the run back as they scored one run in the top of the fifth. After Katelynn Malone (Bogue Chitto) and Landry Loper hit back-to-back singles to start the inning, the Lady Wolves attempted a double steal, but Malone was thrown out. Loper then took third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Emma Foster (Winnsboro, LA) making the score, 13-1.

The Lady Tigers then got two runners on with one out in the bottom of the fifth, but a flyout followed by a popout ended the game securing the game two victory and sweep for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled 17 hits as Emilie Williams and Noelle Laiche had three hits each while Ayari VanBlaircom, Morgan Chisolm, and Mady McCrory had two hits apiece with Brelie Phillips, Brooklyn Reine, Katelynn Malone, Landry Loper, and Cadence Sheppard adding one hit each. Phillips, VanBlaircom, and Williams had two RBIs apiece for the Lady Wolves while Chisolm, Addison Lindley, and Emma Foster had one RBI each.

Ava Browder (Picayune) got the start and improved to 8-1 overall while pitching three innings and allowing one hit with four strikeouts. Lily Crum (Vidalia, LA) pitched two innings of relief allowing one earned run on two hits with one strikeout.

Co-Lin improves to 21-2 overall, 2-0 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Meridian on Tuesday, March 10. First pitch between the Lady Eagles and the Lady Wolves is set for 3 p.m., in Wesson.
