WESSON – The Co-Lin Softball team resumed MACCC play by hosting Meridian on Tuesday, March 10. The Lady Wolves swept the Lady Eagles taking game one, 12-0, and game two, 16-3.
GAME ONE
The game was scoreless until the second inning when the Lady Wolves added a single run in the bottom of the second. Emilie Williams (Summit) crushed a 1-1 pitch over the centerfield fence for a leadoff solo home run to give the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Wolves then added four runs in the bottom of the third as Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) and Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) drew back-to-back walks to start the inning. Laiche then scored on a two-RBI single by Ayari VanBlaircom (Daphne, AL) increasing the lead to 2-0. Phillips then scored on an RBI-groundout by Annie Poole (Brookhaven) while VanBlaircom then scored on a passed ball. Williams then smashed a 2-2 pitch over the fence in left field for a solo home run, her second of the game, extending the lead to 5-0.
The Lady Wolves then exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth as Laiche hit a bunt single while Phillips followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position with one out. Laiche then scored on an RBI-single by VanBlaircom pushing the lead to 6-0 while Brooklyn Reine (Kentwood, LA) drew a walk to load the bases. Phillips then scored on an RBI-single by Poole while Williams drew a walk with the bases loaded scoring VanBlaircom making the lead, 8-0. Morgan Chisolm (Madison) then cleared the bases with a three-RBI double scoring Reine, Poole, and Williams while Chisolm then scored on an RBI-single by Olivia Higginbotham (Hernando) increasing the lead to 12-0.
The Lady Eagles were then retired in order in the top of the fifth to secure the 12-0 victory for the Lady Wolves.
The Lady Wolves totaled 10 hits as a team as Brelie Phillips, Ayari Van Blaircom, and Emilie Williams all went 2-for-2 at the plate while Annie Poole, Morgan Chisolm, Olivia Higginbotham, and Noelle Laiche had one hit each. Williams and Chisolm led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with three each while VanBlaircom and Poole had two RBIs apiece with Higginbotham adding one RBI.
Addison Lindley (Madison) improved to 10-1 overall with the complete game effort allowing just one hit with one walk and four strikeouts.
GAME TWO
The Lady Eagles used a pair of singles followed by a three-run home run in the top of the first to take an early 3-0 lead. However, the Lady Wolves responded with five runs in the bottom half as Brelie Phillips crushed a 2-1 pitch over the left field fence for a leadoff solo home run cutting the lead down to 3-1. Ayari VanBlaircom followed with a single and later in the inning, Annie Poole singled to put two runners on with one out. Williams then followed with an RBI single scoring VanBlaircom while both Poole and Williams then scored on a two-RBI single by Morgan Chisolm giving the Lady Wolves a 4-3 lead. After Chisolm advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Stella Roberts (Raymond), Abby Burnette (Brookhaven) and Noelle Laiche drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with two outs. Phillips then drew a third straight walk scoring Chisolm and pushing the lead to 5-3.
The Lady Wolves then added a pair of runs in the bottom of the second as Poole tripled and Williams walked to put two runners on with one out. Poole then scored on a bunt single by Chisolm while Williams later stole home increasing the lead to 7-3.
The Lady Wolves then added six runs in the bottom of the third as Burnette led off the inning reaching on an error and then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Laiche. Phillips then drew a walk to put runners on the corners with one out while both Burnette and Philips scored on a two-RBI double by VanBlaircom making the lead, 9-3. Later in the inning, Poole reached on an error while Williams drew a walk to load the bases. Chisolm then ambushed the first pitch she saw and demolished the pitch halfway into the Lady Wolves bullpen in left field for a grand slam increasing the lead to 13-3.
The Lady Wolves tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fourth as Ahlyana Houston (Summit) hit a leadoff double while Phillips was then bit-by-pitch and Landry Loper (Olive Branch) reached on an error to load the bases. Houston and Phillips then scored on a two-RBI single by Addison Lindley pushing the score to 15-3. Loper was then forced out as Cadence Sheppard (Hattiesburg) reached on a fielder's choice while Lindley later scored on an RBI-single by Mady McCrory (Purvis) increasing the lead to 16-3.
The Lady Eagles were then retired in order in the top of the fifth to secure the game two victory and sweep for the Lady Wolves.
The Lady Wolves totaled 13 hits as a team with Morgan Chisolm leading the way going a perfect 3-for-3 with Ayari VanBlaircom and Annie Poole adding two hits apiece while Addison Lindley, Emilie Williams, Mady McCrory, Olivia Higginbotham, and Ahlyana Houston had one hit each. Chisolm led the Lady Wolves in RBIs setting a new career high with seven while Phillips, VanBlaircom, and Lindley had two RBIs apiece with Williams and McCrory had one RBI each.
Ava Browder (Picayune) got the start and improved to 9-1 overall with four innings pitched allowing three runs, all earned, on five hits while Lily Crum (Vidalia, LA) pitched one inning of scoreless and hitless relief with one strikeout.
Co-Lin improves to 23-2 overall, 4-0 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Mississippi Delta on Saturday, March 14. First pitch between the Lady Trojans and the Lady Wolves is set for 1 p.m., at Lady Wolves Field in Wesson.
