Lady Wolves Split Road Doubleheader with Bobcats

ELLISVILLE- The Co-Lin Softball team hit the road to face off against Jones on Tuesday, April 7. The No. 5 Lady Wolves and No. 6 Bobcats split the day as the Bobcats won game one, 5-3, while the Lady Wolves took game two, 9-6.

GAME ONE

The Bobcats got on the board first with a single run in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. That lead held until the Lady Wolves struck for a pair of runs in the top of the third as Brellie Phillips (Conehatta) drew a leadoff walk to get the offense going. Later in the inning, Emilie Williams (Summit) crushed a 1-0 pitch over the fence in left field for a two-run home run to give the Lady Wolves a 2-1 lead.

The Bobcats then took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth making the score, 5-2. The Lady Wolves added one run in the top of the sixth as Morgan Chisolm smashed a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence for a solo home run cutting the lead down to 5-3. After a scoreless bottom of the sixth, the Lady Wolves were retired in order in the top of the seventh to seal the game one win for the Bobcats.

The Lady Wolves totaled three hits as Emilie Williams led the way with two while Morgan Chisol mhad one. Williams also led the team in RBIs with two while Chisolm had one.

Addison Lindley (Madison) got the start and took the loss (14-3) while pitching 3.1 innings and allowing four runs, all earned, on four hits with five walks and one strikeout. Ava Browder (Picayune) pitched 1.1 innings of relief allowing one earned run on three hits with one walk.

GAME TWO

The Lady Wolves struck first in game two with a pair of runs in the top of the second as Morgan Chisolm led off and reached safely on an error. After Chisolm advanced to second on a wild pitch, she then scored on an RBI-double by Abby Burnette (Brookhaven) giving the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead. Stella Roberts (Raymond) then drew a walk while Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) singled while Ayari VanBlaircom (Daphne, AL) safely reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases while Burnette was forced out on the play to load the bases with two outs. Brelie Phillips then drew a walk scoring Roberts and increasing the lead to 2-0.

The Lady Wolves scored three more runs in the top of the third as Emilie Williams drew a leadoff walk while Morgan Chisolm then singled to put two runners on with no outs. Later in the inning, Burnette reached on a fielder's choice while Chisolm was forced out on the play then Roberts drew a walk to load the bases with two outs. Laiche then reached on an error while Williams, Burnette, and Roberts all scored on the play pushing the lead to 5-0.

The Bobcats then got one run on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the third cutting the lead down to 5-1. However, the Lady Wolves immediately responded with one run as Phillips crushed a 1-2 pitch over the centerfield fence for a leadoff solo home run increasing the lead to 6-1.

The Lady Wolves then added three more in the top of the fifth as Burnette hit a leadoff single and then advanced all the way to third on a throwing error. Roberts then reached base on a fielder's choice putting runners on the corners with no outs. Later in the inning, Burnette scored on a sacrifice fly by VanBlaircom while Phillips smashed a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left field for a two-run home run increasing the lead to 9-1.

The Bobcats then used a pair of solo home runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead down 9-3. After a scoreless top of the sixth by the Lady Wolves, the Bobcats then used back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom half to cut the lead down to 9-5. In the bottom of the seventh, the Bobcats got the leadoff batter on via a Lady Wolves error and later scored the run on an RBI-double cutting the lead down to 9-6; however, back-to-back groundouts ended the inning securing the game two victory and split for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled nine hits as Brelie Phillips led the way going 3-for-3 while Abby Burnette had two hits with Annie Poole (Brookhaven), Morgan Chisolm, Brooklyn Reine (Kentwood, LA), and Noelle Laiche adding one hit each. Phillips led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with four while Burnette and Ayari VanBlaircom had one RBI each.

Lily Crum (Vidalia, LA) got the start and improved to 4-0 with the win while pitching 4.1 innings and allowing three runs, all earned, on seven hits with three balls and one strikeout. Mady McCrory (Purvis) pitched one inning of relief allowing two runs, both earned, on three hits with one walk and one strikeout while Ava Browder pitched 1.2 innings of relief allowing one unearned run on one hit with one strikeout.

Co-Lin is now 34-5 overall, 15-3 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Itawamba for a Top 15 matchup on Saturday, April 11. First pitch between the No. 13 Lady Indians and the No. 5 Lady Wolves is set for 1 p.m., in Wesson.
