Lady Wolves Sweep Bulldogs

 

PERKINSTON – The Co-Lin Softball team hit the road to face off against MACCC foe Gulf Coast on Wednesday, April 15. The Lady Wolves swept the Bulldogs taking game one, 5-2, and game two, 11-3.

GAME ONE

The Lady Wolves got on the board first with a single run in the top of the second as Morgan Chisolm (Madison) hit a leadoff single and then scored on an RBI-double by Annie Poole (Brookhaven) making the score, 1-0.

That lead held until the Bulldogs struck for a pair of runs to take the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the fifth. The Lady Wolves responded with four runs in the top of the sixth as Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) reached base on an error to get the offense started. Later in the inning, Chisolm hit a single to put two runners on with one out. Poole then smashed a 0-2 pitch over the centerfield fence for a three-run home run to give the Lady Wolves a 4-2 lead. Abby Burnette (Brookhaven) then hit a double and scored on an RBI-single by Stella Roberts (Raymond) increasing the lead to 5-2.

The Bulldogs then got two runners on with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, but a fielder's choice ended the inning with no scoring done. The Bulldogs were then retired in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure the game one victory for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled eight hits as Brelie Phillips, Morgan Chisolm, and Annie Poole had two hits apiece while Abby Burnette and Stella Roberts had one hit each. Poole led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with four while Roberts had one RBI.

Addison Lindley (Madison) improved to 16-3 with the complete game win allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits with one walk and one strikeout.

GAME TWO

The Lady Wolves got on the board first with a single run as Emilie Williams (Summit) hits a two-out single and then scored on an RBI-single by Morgan Chisolm making the score, 1-0.

The Bulldogs then took advantage of an error by the Lady Wolves and scored two runs to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. That score held until the Lady Wolves scored two to retake the lead as Brooklyn Reine (Kentwood, LA) hit a leadoff single while Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) reached base on an error while Reine scored on the play to tie the game. Later in the inning, Brelie Phillips hits a double while Laiche then scored on a sacrifice fly by Williams to give the Lady Wolves a 3-2 lead.

The Lady Wolves then added four runs in the top of the fourth as Annie Poole drew a leadoff walk while Abby Burnette and Stella Roberts hit back-to-back singles to load the bases with no outs. Reine and Laiche then drew back-to-back walks scoring Poole and Burnette and increasing the lead to 5-2. Ayari VanBlaircom (Daphne, AL) then hit an RBI-single scoring Roberts while Reine then scored on a sacrifice fly by Phillips extending the lead to 7-2.

The Lady Wolves then added a solo run as Roberts crushed a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left field for a two-out solo home run increasing the lead to 8-2. The Lady Wolves then added three runs in the top of the sixth as VanBlaircom hit a leadoff single while Phillips drew a walk to put two runners on with no outs. Later in the inning, VanBlaircom was caught stealing third while Williams and Chisolm drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with one out. Three straight walks to Burnette, Roberts, and Reine score Phillips, Williams, and Chisolm increasing the lead to 11-2.

The Bulldogs then hit a leadoff solo home run in the top of the seventh to cut the lead down to 11-3. The Bulldogs then went popout, groundout, walk, flyout to end the game and secure the game two victory and sweep for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled 10 hits as Ayari VanBlaircom, Abby Burnette, and Stella Roberts had two hits apiece with Brelie Phillips, Emilie Williams, Morgan Chisolm, and Brooklyn Reine had one hit each. Roberts and Reine led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with two apiece while VanBlaircom, Phillips, Williams, Chisolm, Burnette, and Laiche had one RBI each.

Lily Crum (Vidalia, LA) improved to 6-0 with the complete game win allowing three runs, one earned on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

Co-Lin is now 38-5 overall, 19-3 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Southwest on Tuesday, April 21. First pitch between the Lady Bears and the Lady Wolves is set for 4 p.m., at Lady Wolves Field in Wesson.
