Lady Wolves Sweep Lady Bears & Lady Rangers

WESSON – The Co-Lin Softball team returned home to host MACCC foe and rival Southwest on Tuesday, April 21. The No. 4 Lady Wolves swept the Lady Bears taking game one, 3-1, and game two, 11-2. The Lady Wolves then hit the road for a ranked matchup against Northwest and swept the No. 17 Lady Rangers taking game one, 16-2, and game two, 4-2.

CO-LIN 3 SOUTHWEST 1

The game was scoreless through the first two innings, but the Lady Wolves broke through with three runs in the bottom of the third as Ayari VanBlaircom (Daphne, AL) hit a leadoff double to get the offense going. Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) then crushed a 2-1 pitch for a two-run home run to give the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead. Emilie Williams (Summit) then doubled while Morgan Chisolm (Madison) singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. Williams then scored on a sacrifice fly by Annie Poole (Brookhaven) increasing the lead to 3-0.

The Lady Wolves kept the Lady Bears off the board until the top of the seventh when they scored one and had the tying run at the plate with two outs, but a line out ended the game and secured the victory for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled seven hits as Emilie Williams and Morgan Chisolm had two hits apiece with Ayari VanBlaircom, Brelie Phillips, and Brooklyn Reine (Kentwood, LA) had one hit each. Phillips led the team in RBIs with two while Annie Poole had one RBI.

Addison Lindley (Madison) improved to 17-3 with the complete game win allowing one earned run on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

CO-LIN 11 SOUTHWEST 2

The Wolves got on the board first as they scored five runs in the bottom of the first with Brelie Phillips drawing a walk while Emilie Williams doubled to put two runners in scoring position with one out. Morgan Chisolm then hit an RBI-single scoring Phillips and give the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead. Annie Poole then crushed a 2-2 pitch over the fence in left field for a three-run home run increasing the lead to 4-0. Abby Burnette (Brookhaven), Stella Roberts (Raymond), and Brooklyn Reine drew three straight walks to load the bases with one out. Later in the inning, Ayari VanBlaircom drew a walk scoring Burnette and extending the lead to 5-0.

The Lady Bears then hit a solo home run in the top of the second cutting the lead down to 5-1.

The Lady Wolves then added two runs in the bottom half as Chisolm got the offense started with a one-out single. Poole then reached on an error and advanced to third on the play while Chisolm scored and made the lead, 6-1. Later in the inning, Poole scored on an RBI-single by Roberts pushing the lead to 7-1.

The Lady Wolves then added two more runs in the bottom of the third as Phillips crushed a 2-0 pitch over the centerfield fence for a one-out solo home run making the score, 8-1. Williams then followed with a single and later scored on an RBI-single by Poole pushing the lead to 9-1.

The Lady Bears then scored one run in the top of the fourth cutting the lead to 9-2. However, the Lady Wolves responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half as Reine hit a leadoff single to get the offense going. Reine then scored on an RBI-triple by Ahlyana Houston (Summit) who then scored on an RBI-single by VanBlaircom pushing the lead to 11-2.

The Lady Bears were then retired in order in the top of the fifth to secure the game two victory and sweep for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled 12 hits as Emilie Williams led the way with three hits while Morgan Chisolm and Annie Poole had two hits apiece with Ayari VanBlaircom, Brelie Phillips, Stella Roberts, Brooklyn Reine, and Ahylana Houston had one hit each. Poole led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with four while VanBlaircom had two with Phillips, Chisolm, Roberts, and Houston had one RBI each.

Lily Crum (Vidalia, LA) got the start and improved to 7-0 with the complete game win allowing two earned runs on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

CO-LIN 16 NORTHWEST 2

The Lady Wolves got on the board first with a single run in the top of the first as Ayari VanBlaircom drew a walk while Brelie Phillips hit a single to put two runners on with no outs. Later in the inning, Chisolm hit a single to load the bases with one out while Annie Poole drew a walk scoring VanBlaircom and giving the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Wolves added a single run in the top of the second as VanBlaircom crushed a 2-0 pitch over the fence in centerfield for a solo home run increasing the lead to 2-0. The Lady Wolves then added six runs in the top of the fourth as Stella Roberts hit a leadoff single to get the offense started. Abby Burnette then smashed a 1-2 pitch over the left field fence for a two-run home run doubling the lead to 4-0. Brooklyn Reine then reached on an error while Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) drew a walk to put two runners on with no outs. VanBlaircom then hit an RBI-single scoring Reine while Phillips hit a two-RBI double scoring Laiche and VanBlaircom extending the lead to 7-0. Later in the inning, Phillips scored on an RBI-groundout by Annie Poole making the score, 8-0.

The Lady Rangers then hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth making the score, 8-2.

The Lady Wolves then responded with an offensive explosion of eight runs in the top of the fifth as Reine hit a one-out single to get the offense started while Laiche then safely reached on a fielder's choice. Reine then scored on an RBI-single by VanBlaircom while Laiche later scored on a passed ball increasing the lead to 10-2. Phillips then ripped an RBI-single scoring VanBlaircom pushing the lead to 11-2. After Emilie Williams was hit-by-pitch to put two runners on with one out, Morgan Chisolm hit an RBI-single scoring Phillips. Poole then hit a two-RBI single scoring Williams and Chisolm extending the lead to 14-2. After Landry Loper (Olive Branch) was brought in as a pinch runner, Roberts drew a walk to put two runners on with one out while Burnette then hit a two-RBI double scoring Landry and Roberts making the score, 16-2.

The Lady Rangers then hit back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the fifth, but a popout, strikeout, and a fielder's choice ended the inning securing the game one victory for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled 14 hits as Ayari VanBlaircom, Brelie Phillips, and Morgan Chisolm had three hits apiece while Abby Burnette had two hits with Annie Poole, Stella Roberts, and Brooklyn Reine had one hit each. Poole and Burnette led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with four apiece while VanBlaircom and Phillips had three RBIs each with Chisolm adding one RBI

Addison Lindley improved to 18-3 overall with the complete game win allowing two earned runs on six hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.

CO-LIN 4 NORTHWEST 2

The Rangers got on the board first as they scored a single run in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead.

That score held until the Lady Wolves took the lead with a pair of home runs in the top of the third as Ayari VanBlaircom reached on an error with one out on the board to get the offense going. Later in the inning, Emilie Williams blasted a 0-1 pitch over the left field fence for a two-run home run giving the Lady Wolves a 2-1 lead. The Lady Rangers then tied the game at 2-2 with a single run in the bottom of the third.

The Lady Wolves then regained the lead with a single run in the top of the fourth as Annie Poole hit a leadoff triple and then scored on an RBI-single by Stella Roberts making the score, 3-2. The Lady Rangers then threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth as they got two runners on with one out, but a fielder's choice followed by a lineout left the runners stranded with the Lady Wolves maintaining their lead.

The Lady Wolves then added a single run in the top of the seventh as Emilie Williams hit a leadoff single, took second on a sacrifice bunt by Morgan Chisolm, and then scored on an RBI-double by Annie Poole increasing the lead to 4-2.

The Lady Rangers then got a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh, but back-to-back flyouts followed by a popout ended the game securing the game two victory and sweep for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled ten hits as Annie Poole led the way with three while Emilie Williams had two hits with Brelie Phillips, Stella Roberts, Abby Burnette, Brooklyn Reine, and Ahylana Houston had one hit each. Williams led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with two while Poole and Roberts had one RBI each.

Lily Crum improved to 8-0 with the complete game win allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Co-Lin is now 42-5 overall, 23-3 in MACCC play and will return to action hosting Holmes in the regular season finale on Saturday, April 25. First pitch is set for 2 p.m., at Lady Wolves Field in Wesson.
