Lady Wolves Drop Game Against Lady Indians

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to MACCC play by hosting Itawamba on Monday, February 24. The Lady Indians beat the Lady Wolves, 66-51.

The opening minutes of the first quarter saw the Lady Indians go on an 11-4 scoring run to hold a lead by that margin with 6:01 left to play. The Lady Indians then used a 5-2 scoring run to push their lead to 17-6 with 3:42 remaining. The Lady Indians closed the quarter with a 3-2 scoring run to hold a 20-8 lead over the Lady Wolves at the end of play.

The Lady Wolves opened the second quarter with an 8-7 scoring run that cut the Lady Indians lead down to 27-16 with 6:27 left on the clock. The Lady Wolves then used a 7-5 scoring run to once again cut into the Lady Indians lead as the score stood at 32-23 with 3:22 left to play in the quarter. However, the Lady Indians responded by closing out the quarter with a 5-1 scoring run to push their lead over the Lady Wolves to 37-24 as the teams entered the locker rooms for halftime.

The Lady Wolves came out on fire to open the third quarter as they went on an 8-2 scoring run to cut the Lady Indians lead down to 39-32 with 6:06 remaining. However, the Lady Indians responded with ten unanswered points to push their lead to 49-32 with 2:17 left to play. The Lady Wolves then closed out the quarter with a 3-2 scoring run as the Lady Indians held a 51-35 lead heading to the final quarter of play.

The teams traded baskets to open the fourth quarter as the Lady Indians outscored the Lady Wolves, 5-4, to push their lead to 56-39 with 7:28 left on the clock. The Lady Wolves then went on an 8-6 scoring run to cut the lead down to 62-47 with 3:03 remaining. Both teams closed out the game by adding four points as the Lady Indians sealed the 66-51 win over the Lady Wolves.

Angel Wilkinson (Brookhaven) led the Lady Wolves offensively with a shared game-leading 20 points along with four rebounds and three steals. Maddison Mitchell (Baton Rouge, LA) had 11 points with two rebounds, and one assists while Chrystance Walters (Pearl) and Kiersten Haynes (Clinton) had six points each with Haynes adding three rebounds and three assists to her night.

Tyra Johnson (Morton) had four points while Kamiayah Pruitt (Pass Christian) and Eymani Key (Lafayette, LA) had two points each to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 14-13 overall, 4-8 in MACCC play, and will hit the road for their final regular season road game against Meridian on Thursday, February 27. Tip-off between the Lady Wolves and Lady Eagles is set for 5:30 p.m. at Graham Gymnasium.
