Lady Wolves Fall Short Against Lady Bears
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team hit the road for their final non-conference game against Baton Rouge on Thursday, January 8. The Lady Bears beat the Lady Wolves, 61-51.
The two teams kept the game close in the first quarter as the Lady Bears outscored the Lady Wolves, 17-14, to hold a lead by that margin at the end of play. The second quarter was even closer than the first; however, the Lady Bears outscored the Lady Wolves once again, this time 11-10, to increase their lead to 28-20 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.
The second half saw the teams stay within one possession of each other throughout the third quarter, but once again the Lady Bears outscored the Lady Wolves, 16-14, running their lead to 44-38, heading to the final quarter. The Lady Bears kept the Lady Wolves at bay in the final quarter adding 17 points to their lead while holding the Lady Wolves to 13 to seal the 61-51 win.
Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) led the way for the Lady Wolves with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds with two assists and two steals while Zion Nelson (Byram) provided a spark off the bench with 12 points with four rebounds and two assists.
Eymani Key (Lafayette, LA), Akeelah Hobson (Oakdale, LA), and Amari Barnes (Tylertown) had six points each while Jamyria Robinson (St. Martin) and Jalynn Applewhite (Gulfport) had three points each. Maddison Mitchell (Baton Rouge, LA) had two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.
Co-Lin is now 8-3 overall and will return to action hosting Mississippi Delta for the MACCC opener on Monday, January 12. Tip-off between the Lady Trojans and the Lady Wolves is set for 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
