Lady Wolves Come Up Short Against Lady Indians
FULTON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team continued MACCC play on the road against Itawamaba on Thursday, January 22. The Lady Wolves lost to the Lady Indians, 66-45.
The Lady Wolves got off to a slow start offensively as the Lady Indians outscored them, 12-6, and held a lead by that margin at halftime. The Lady Wolves offense perked up in the second quarter; however, the Lady Indians once again outscored them, 16-13, increasing their lead to 28-19.
The best quarter for the Lady Wolves offensively was the third quarter as they put 20 points on the board, but the Lady Indians added 21 points to their lead making the score, 49-39 heading to the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Wolves offensive woes returned as they were outscored, 17-6, as the Lady Indians sealed the 66-45 win.
Akeelah Hobson (Oakdale, LA) led the way offensively for the Lady Wolves as she scored 13 points with one rebound while Maddison Mitchell (Baton Rouge, LA) had 11 points with four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Jalynn Applewhite (Gulfport) had six points with four rebounds and one assist.
Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) and Jamyria Robinson (St. Martin) had four points each while Amari Barnes (Tylertown) had three points with Tyra Johnson (Morton) and Zion Nelson (Bryam) added two points each to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.
Co-Lin is now 10-5 overall, 2-2 in MACCC play, and will return to action on the road against Northeast on Thursday, January 29 with the postponement of their home game against Coahoma to Saturday, January 31. Tip-off between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Tigers is set for 5:30 p.m., at Bonner Arnold Coliseum in Booneville.
