Lady Wolves Drop Road Game Against Bobcats

ELLISVILLE – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team hit the road to face off against MACCC foe Jones on Monday, February 16. The Bobcats overcame a second half surge by the Lady Wolves to take the game, 67-57.

The Lady Wolves struggled offensively to start the game as the Bobcats went on a 10-2 run to hold the lead by that margin with 4:14 left to play in the first quarter. The Lady Wolves responded with a 6-5 scoring run to cut the lead down to 15-8 with 1:13 remaining. However, the Bobcats responded by closing out the quarter and outscoring the Lady Wolves, 4-3, to push their lead to 19-11 at the end of play.

Both teams were cold offensively in the second quarter as the Bobcats outscored the Lady Wolves, 4-2, to push their lead to 23-13 with 4:40 left on the clock. The Lady Wolves then went on a 7-2 scoring run to cut the lead down to 25-20 with 1:51 remaining in the first half. However, the Bobcats responded with a 4-0 scoring run to push their lead to 29-20 as the teams hit the locker room for halftime.

The Lady Wolves opened the third quarter with an 8-7 scoring run to cut the Bobcats lead down to 36-28 with 5:42 remaining. The Lady Wolves then scored seven unanswered points to cut the lead down to one point, 36-35, with 2:05 left to play. The Lady Wolves then closed out the quarter with a 4-2 scoring run to hold a 39-38 lead heading to the final quarter of play.

The Lady Wolves carried the momentum over into the opening moments of the fourth quarter as they went on a quick 4-0 scoring run to push their lead to 43-38 with 8:41 left on the clock. The Bobcats responded with a 10-5 scoring run to tie the game at 48-48 with 4:36 remaining in the game. The Bobcats then used a 12-4 scoring run to take a 60-52 lead with 1:01 left to play. The Wolves were then outscored, 7-5, to close out the game with the Bobcats winning 67-57.

Maddison Mitchell (Baton Rouge, LA) led the way offensively for the Lady Wolves with 15 points along with two rebounds, one assist, and one steal while Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) had 14 points with five rebounds and one assist with Eymani Key (Lafayette, LA) adding 10 points with five rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block.

Amari Barnes (Tylertown) had six points, Akeelah Hobson (Oakdale, LA) had five points, and Zion Nelson (Byram) had four points with Jamyria Robinson (St. Martin) adding two points and Jalynn Applewhite (Gulfport) adding one point to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 12-8 overall, 4-5 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Southwest on Thursday, February 19. Tip-off between the Lady Bears and Lady Wolves is set for 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
