Lady Wolves Drop Game Against Rangers

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to MACCC play by hosting Northwest on Saturday, February 21. In a back and forth battle, the Rangers came away with a 77-69 win over the Lady Wolves.

The teams traded baskets and leads throughout the opening minutes of the first quarter, but the Rangers held a lead, 10-6, over the Lady Wolves with 6:04 left to play. Both teams then added five points each to their totals as the Rangers held the lead at 15-11 with 4:05 remaining. The Rangers then closed out the quarter by outscoring the Lady Wolves, 3-2, to push their lead to 18-13 at the end of play.

The Rangers opened the second quarter with a 7-3 scoring run to increase their lead to 25-16 with 6:16 left on the clock. The Lady Wolves responded with a 7-4 scoring run to cut the lead to 29-23 with 2:15 left to play. The Lady Wolves then closed out the first half with an 8-2 scoring run to tie the game at 31-31 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

Once again, the teams opened the second half and third quarter trading baskets and leads while the Lady Wolves ultimately held a lead over the Rangers, 43-42, with 5:52 left on the clock. The Lady Wolves then went on a 7-6 scoring run to push their lead to 50-48 with 3:18 remaining. The Lady Wolves then closed out the quarter with a 6-5 scoring run to hold a 56-53 lead heading to the final quarter of play.

The Lady Wolves opened the fourth quarter with an 8-7 scoring run pushing their lead to 64-60 with 7:19 left to play. However, the Rangers responded with an 8-2 scoring run to take a 68-66 lead with 2:58 remaining in the game. The Rangers then closed out the game with a 9-3 scoring run to seal the 77-69 win.

Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) led the way for the Lady Wolves with a double-double performance of 15 points and 15 rebounds along with four assists and two steals while Eymani Key (Lafayette, LA) had 15 points with five rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Maddison Mitchell (Baton Rouge, LA) and Akeelah Hobson (Oakdale, LA) had 11 points each with Mitchell adding two rebounds, four assists, and two steals while Hobson had four rebounds and two assists.

Tyra Johnson (Morton) had eight points, Zion Nelson (Byram) had seven points, and Jalynn Applewhite (Gulfport) had two points to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 13-9 overall, 5-6 in MACCC play, and will return to action on the road to face off against Hinds on Monday, February 23. Tip-off between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Bulldogs is set for 5:30 p.m. at J.D. Boyd Gym in Utica.
