Lady Wolves Blitz Lady Bulldogs
UTICA – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team returned to MACCC play with a road game against Hinds on Monday, February 23. The Lady Wolves dominated the game as they beat the Lady Bulldogs, 79-58.
The Lady Wolves took command in the first quarter as they outscored the Lady Bulldogs, 30-13, to hold a lead by that margin at the end of play. In the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Wolves, 13-10, but the Lady Wolves held a 43-26 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms for halftime.
In the third quarter, the Lady Wolves flexed their muscles and nearly tripled up the Lady Bulldogs outscoring them, 22-9, to push their lead to 66-35 heading to the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Wolves, 23-17, but the Lady Wolves held the Lady Bulldogs at arm's length for the whole quarter as they secured the 79-58 victory.
The Lady Wolves had four players in double-digit scoring figures as Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) led the way with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds while Eymani Key (Lafayette, LA) and Zion Nelson (Byram) had 12 points each with Key narrowly missing a double-double with eight rebounds two assists, and two steals while Nelson added four rebounds, one assist, and two steals. Amari Barnes (Tylertown) came off the bench and had a perfect shooting night going 4-for-4 including a trio of three pointers as she scored 11 points with one assist and one steal.
Zariah Hatten (Taylorsville) provided a huge spark off the bench as she nearly had a double-double with nine points and seven rebounds while Akeelah Hobson (Oakdale, LA) had six points. Jalynn Applewhite (Gulfport) and Jamyria Robinson (St. Martin) had four points each while Maddison Mitchell (Baton Rouge, LA) and Tyra Johnson (Morton) had two points each to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.
Co-Lin improves to 14-9 overall, 6-6 in MACCC play, and will return to action hosting Gulf Coast on Thursday, February 26. It will be the regular season home finale for the Lady Wolves as they will celebrate Sophomore Night and honor the sophomores in between the two games. Tip-off between the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Wolves is set for 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
