Wolves Win Three During Week
WESSON – The Co-Lin Baseball team played four games in four days to end the week. The Wolves won three of the four games with a doubleheader split on the road taking game one against Hinds, 14-1, and dropping game two against Southwest, 10-9, in ten innings on Wednesday, February 25. The Wolves then beat Rend Lake, 11-5, on Friday, February 27, and went on the road and beat Coastal Alabama – South, 15-11, on Saturday, February 28.

The Wolves got on the board early with three runs in the top of the first as Avery Griffin (Brookhaven) was hit-by-pitch to get the offense going while Trey Davidson (Brandon) then hit a double. Griffin then scored on a passed ball while Davidson also scored from second on the same play giving the Wolves a 2-0 lead while Bradley Hanlon (Monroe, LA) drew a walk. Later in the inning, Hanlon scored on an RBI-single by John Mark Grissom (Pearl) to increase the lead to 3-0.
The Wolves then added four runs in the top of the second as Evan Holifield (Stringer) and Bryson Jones (Brandon) hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Later in the inning, Davidson ambushed the first pitch he saw and demolished a three-run home run over the left field fence making the score, 6-0. Hanlon then drew a walk, stole second, and scored on an RBI-single by Grissom increasing the lead to 7-0.
The Eagles then took advantage of an error by the Wolves in the bottom of the second to score their only run of the game and cut the lead down to 7-1. The Wolves responded with three runs in the top of the third as Jacob Chancelor (Brandon) drew a leadoff walk to get the offense going. Later in the inning, Holifield and Jones hit back-to-back singles to load the bases with one out. Chancelor then scored as Griffin reached on a fielder's choice while Davidson was then intentionally walked with the bases still loaded scoring Holifield and increasing the lead to 9-1. Jones then scored on a sacrifice fly by Hanlon making the score, 10-1.
After a scoreless fourth, the Wolves added their final four runs in the top of the fifth as Holifield hit a leadoff single to get the offense started. Later in the inning, Davidson was intentionally walked for the second time to put two runners on with two outs. Hanlon then hit a two-RBI double scoring Holifield and Davidson and increasing the lead to 12-1. After Donovan Moore (Roxie) was hit-by-pitch, Grissom hit a two-RBI double scoring Hanlon and Moore making the score, 14-1. The Eagles then went strikeout, walk, popout, strikeout in the bottom of the fifth to secure the run-rule victory for the Wolves.
The Wolves totaled 11 hits as a team as John Mark Grissom and Evan Holifield were a perfect 3-for-3 during the game with Trey Davidson also having a perfect day at the plate going 2-for-2 and reaching base in all four plate appearances while Bradley Hanlon went 1-for-1. Davidson and Grissom led the Wolves in RBIs with four each while Hanlon had three RBIs and Avery Griffin had one RBI.
Wes White (Flowood) got the start and improved to 2-1 overall with five innings pitched allowing one unearned run on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
SOUTHWEST 10 CO-LIN 9
The Bears got on the board first by taking advantage of a Wolves error in the bottom of the first to score two runs and take an early 2-0 lead. The Wolves responded with four runs in the top of the second as Jacob Chancelor drew a leadoff walk while Matthew Combs (Hurley) followed with a single. Hayes Hebert (Lafayette, LA) then dropped a sacrifice bunt but was safe on the play while an error allowed both Chancellor and Combs to score and tie the game at 2-2. Later in the inning, Hebert scored on an RBI-single by Bryson Jones to take a 3-2 lead. Jones later scored on an RBI-groundout by Evan Holifield increasing the lead to 4-2.
The Bears cut the lead down to one with a run in the bottom of the third making the score, 4-3. The Wolves increased their lead with five runs in the top of the fifth as Trey Davidson, Bradley Hanlon, and John Mark Grissom drew three straight walks to load the bases with no outs. Davidson then scored as Chancelor reached on a fielder's choice while Grissom was forced out on the play increasing the score, 5-3. Later in the inning, Hebert drew a walk to load the bases with two outs. Hanlon then scored on a passed ball while Holifield hit an RBI-single scoring Chancelor and increasing the lead to 7-3. Later in the inning, Hanlon and Holifield scored on two passed balls to extend the lead to 9-3.
The Bears then scored one run in the fifth, two in the sixth, and three in the eighth to tie the game at 9-9. Both teams were retired in order in the ninth to send the game into extra innings. The Wolves got a leadoff double from Hebert in the top of the tenth. After Bryson Bey was brought in as a pinch runner, he then stole third, but was left stranded back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout ended the inning. The Bears then won the game with a run in the bottom half of the inning for the 10-9 win.
The Wolves totaled seven hits as a team with Bryson Jones and Evan Holifield having two hits apiece while Bradley Hanlon, Matthew Combs, and Hayes Hebert had one hit each. Jones, Holifield, Trey Davidson, and Jacob Chancelor had one RBI each.
Cameron Patterson (Central, LA) got the start and earned a no-decision with five innings pitched allowing six runs, two earned, on four hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Lucian Walker (Starkville) pitched two innings of scoreless relief allowing one hit with one walk and three strikeouts. Nash Sturdivant (Brandon) took the loss in relief (1-1) with 2.2 innings pitched allowing four runs, three earned, on two hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

The Warriors took the lead early with three runs in the top of the first making the score, 3-0. The Wolves responded with four runs in the bottom half as Bryson Jones hit a leadoff double while Avery Griffin drew a walk to put two runners on with no outs. Jones then scored on an RBI-single by Trey Davidson while Griffin and Davidson tied the game on a two-RBI triple by Bradley Hanlon making the score, 3-3. Later in the inning, Hanlon stole home to give the Wolves a 4-3 lead.
The Warriors then tied the game with a single run in the top of the second making the score, 4-4. The Wolves then took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth as Griffin and Davidson hit back-to-back singles to put two runners on with one out. Later in the inning, the Wolves pulled off a double steal and an error on the play allowed Griffin to score while Davidson then scored on an RBI-single by Donovan Moore making the score, 6-4.
The Wolves added a single run in the bottom of the seventh as Griffin hit a leadoff double, took third on a single by Hanlon and then scored on a passed ball increasing the lead to 7-4. The Warriors then scored their final run of the game with a leadoff solo home run in the top of the eighth making the score, 7-5.
The Wolves responded with four runs in the bottom half as Bryson Bey drew a walk, Brady White was hit-by-pitch, and Jones walked to load the bases with no outs. Griffin then crushed a 1-0 pitch over the right field fence for a grand slam making the lead, 11-5. The Warriors then went flyout, strikeout, flyout in the top of the ninth to secure the victory.
The Wolves totaled 12 hits as Avery Griffin led the way going 3-for-3 while Bryson Jones, Trey Davidson, Bradley Hanlon, and Donovan Moore added two hits each with John Mark Grissom adding one hit. Griffin led the Wolves in RBIs with four while Hanlon had two with Davidson and Moore adding one RBI each.
Akavion Griffith (Magee) got the start and earned a no-decision with four innings pitched allowing four runs, all earned, on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts while MT Breland (Columbia) picked up his first collegiate win (1-0) with two scoreless and hitless innings of relief with one walk. Jennings Kimbrell (Flowood) got his first career save with three innings pitched allowing one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts.
CO-LIN 15 COASTAL SOUTH 11
The Wolves got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the first as Bryson Jones drew a leadoff walk to start the game. Later in the inning, Trey Davidson ambushed the first pitch he saw and crushed it over the centerfield fence for a two-run home run giving the Wolves a 2-0 lead. The Coyotes then hit a solo home run to cut the lead in half at 2-1 in the bottom of the first.
The Wolves got the run back in the top of the second as John Mark Grissom was hit-by-pitch to start the inning. Later in the inning, Grissom advanced to second on a passed ball and then scored on an RBI single by Evan Holifield making the score, 3-1.
The Wolves then added five runs in the top of the third as Avery Griffin was hit-by-pitch, Davidson singled, and Bradley Hanlon drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. Griffin then scored on an RBI-single by Donovan Moore while Grissom smashed a 0-1 pitch over the fence in left field for a grand slam increasing the lead to 8-1.
The Coyotes then cut the lead in half with three runs in the bottom of the fourth making the score, 8-4. The Wolves then increased the lead with five runs in the top of the fifth as Grissom drew a leadoff walk, but was thrown out at home while trying to score on a double by Matthew Combs. Combs then scored as Hayes Hebert reached on an error increasing the lead to 9-4. Evan Holifield then singled while Bryson Jones drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Griffin then drew a walk scoring Hebert, Holifield scored on a passed ball, and Davidson hit an RBI-single scoring Jones making the lead, 12-4. Later in the inning, Griffin scored on a wild pitch giving the Wolves a 13-4 lead.
The Coyotes then hit a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the fifth cutting the lead down to 13-5. The Wolves got the run back in the top of the seventh as Hanlon hit a one-out single and later scored on an RBI-single by Grissom making the score 14-5. The final run for the Wolves came in the top of the eighth as Jones drew a one-out walk and later scored on a fielder's choice by Griffin increasing the lead to 15-5.
The Coyotes then scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth cutting the lead down to 15-5. The Coyotes plated four runs in the bottom of the ninth, but a flyout ended the potential rally and secured the 15-11 victory for the Wolves.
The Wolves totaled 14 hits as Trey Davidson, John Mark Grissom, and Evan Holifield had three hits apiece while Matthew Combs had two hits with Bryson Jones, Bradley Hanlon, and Donovan Moore added one hit each. Grissom led the Wolves in RBIs with five, Davidson had three, Griffin had two, while Moore and Holifield had one RBI each.
Cohen Weinhofer (Ocean Springs) got the start and improved to 2-1 overall with 4.2 innings pitched allowing five runs, all earned, on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Nash Sturdivant pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless and hitless relief with two strikeouts while Jacob Buffalo (Foxworth) pitched one inning of scoreless and hitless relief with one strikeout. Ty Blakeney (Taylorsville) made a relief appearance allowing two runs, one earned, with two walks. Caleb Flynn (Laurel) pitched 0.2 innings of relief with two walks while Lucian Walker pitched 1.1 innings of relief allowing four runs, all earned, on five hits with two strikeouts.
Co-Lin is now 12-6 overall and will return to action on Tuesday, March 3 hosting East Central and Gulf Coast. First pitch against the Warriors is slated for Noon while the Wolves and Bulldogs are slated for a 6 p.m., start at Sullivan Field in Wesson.
